This time of year I'd stay out of the bed and set up between the food and the bed. Preferably in a funnel of some sort.
If that doesn't work, put some piles of corn on the ground; works for Tristatehunter. He's gonna put the smack-down on a big boy this year...

Not sure how bucks behave everywhere else but here the old bucks establish a core area that they will bed around in...from 50 acres toseveral hundred acres in anarea...
I like to try to set up on the fringes of exit routes..to feed.. say 100-200 yards out..

This one particular area I'm wondering about I can setup in a picture perfect little funnel between where they bed and feed. The problem is from the edge of the crop field to the bedding area (which I'm possitive about) is about 300 yards. In years past I've tucked off the food 30- 50 yards or so to not get to close to them.
I've watched deer after deer after deer (including some BIG bucks) heading my way and towards the crop fields still 50-75 yards away towards their beds right around the time it's getting dark thirty and I'm starting to pack it in. I'm just a little apprehensive about pushing the envelope and creeping as close as i can to their bedding area or just waiting it out in hopes of catching them coming earlier.

I don't see how you anything to loose by selecting a windy day and creeping closer. 100 yds seems like a good figure but intervening terrain and vegetation could make difference.
How much for the bridge?
