Default Are Moose really that dumb???

Not trying to offend anyone thats hunts them. Everytime I watch a Moose hunt on tv its always the same, wave something similiar looking to them and they come right to ya?
Am I getting the wrong impression from tv or are they really THAT DUMB??

Ohhhh and caribou.... do these animals have brains???

Once again Im not trying to aggravate the ones that do hunt them as I live in Maryland and have no clue, just always seem to laugh when i watch these shows??

I know what you're referring to. I don't think moose have real good eye sight, hence the REAL close shots you see?

They don't get much hunting pressure from humans, so they have evolved to the point that they simply don't know that humans present danger. They are used to seeing danger with 4 legs, big fangs, and a swagger!

Some ares here where natives hunt them 3 months out of the year they run when they here a vehicle driving down the road..

The state here allows hunts by lottery and it is only 2 weeks worth of hunting. The first week opens today for about half the lottery winners. They have can only hunt for 6 days total for 1 moose. The next hunt is for the other lottery winners who will start the 6 day hunt 2 weeks from today. So the moose really do not have much hunting presure and will appear dumb. They have a great sence of smell and hearing so without much pressure they will hang around. Normally calling them is the key, keeping quite and waiting for that big one to come out. They sometimes will answer a call and at other times will not. But all in all 6 days is not much time to give any pressure to them.

I agree with the little fear of humans comment made earlier. We see a fair number of moose here in Northern MN especially in the BWCAW. They don't get very excited unless you surprise them. I have a friend who used to work on the railroad in Ontario. He tells stories of moose not getting out of the way of trains, or trying to jump in between the cars while the train is moving. I guess that could be used to discredit their IQ. I think in general their size in relation to other predators, and the fact that people usually watch them and don't hunt them leads to their casual nature around humans. I am not really a moose-ologist, just see a few of them every year.
