i wish i could see 100 deer in a day

My dad quit hunting(running deerdogs)in our hometown county in 1980, because he said you could ride for2-3 hrs and not see a deer track. I hunt in the same area he hunted back then and I routinely ride around in my club and see 25-40 deer an hour. I can't remember the last time I didn't see a deer from my stand. I like to hear the stories some of the 'old timers' tell about not seeing a deer but twice a year. It has totally changed now!

PA old time thinkers are whining just the opposite. In some areas that may be true, others no no no. PA's estimation is still in upwards of over a million animals, it's never been that way in the "olden" days.

I used to be one of the old time thinkers that Rob is talking about. When I started hunting, it was nothing to see 20 deer in a group and maybe 50 in a day. 5 years ago we saw like 10 deer all season on our land. After timbering and getting some new growth back, the deer are back too. Deer will go where they can find what they need.

i was reading an article the other day that said in the 1930's the deer pop. of Iowa was 500-700. In the whole state!
