Pan-hunting TV HACK!

RE: Pan-hunting TV HACK!
I caught part of it. This show and some made these days don't even remotely resemble the old videos that first came out. I was totally unimpressed with his Bowtech Patriot rendition, so much so that I was totally turned off! Its sad that commercialism to sell products invaded our domain. We all spout off about taking only good shots, and then some bozos with land and cameras try to make us all look stupid, unethical and immature. Me thinks that emails, letters and phone calls are in order to the Outdoor Channel to voice our displeasure with a show of this nature.

RE: Pan-hunting TV HACK!
I havn't seen that show. I own alot of videos and for the most part, I don't notice "poor shot selection".
All of the Realtree video's I see have been good. There was a few, maybe two, poor shots. One I can think of was a lady was in a stand. She had a buck come in and she tried drawing her bow back. She couldn't get it back, and, she pulled a muscle in her back while trying to get the bow drawn. Well, the camera man helps her get the bow back and she takes aim. She is wobbly to say the least and luckily she makes a clean miss.
Stan Potts on the new Primetime video takes a terrible shot. "He had to shoot the deer head on" because it was a monster.
Other than that, I don't recall too many bad shots. Realtree seems to be really good with their shot selection. Michael Wadel is an amazing shot. Primetime isn't bad with the exception of Stann Potts. Primos is good. I love their truth videos. Knight&Hale is good. I love Roger Raglin videos. Bushnells Secrets of the hunt is another good one.

RE: Pan-hunting TV HACK!
Here's a copy of what I sent to the Pan-Hunting Team.
Hello,
I recently watched one of you shows on the Outdoor Channel and I feel compelled to contact you. This particular show aired on January 10th and had the host bownunting for whitetails in Kansas. The first segement showed him taking a shot at a buck through a lot of brush and missing. I understand that the camera angle is not the same as the hunter's, but the host then stated " I didn't think I could get it through the hole, 'bout the size of a softball, but he was the 8 point of a lifetime!" ...Herein lies the problem.
A poor percentage is a poor percentage whether it's an 8point a 180 class or a squirrel...enough said.
The next segement shows him stalking a doe and taking a 48 yard shot...I have problems with this as well, but I don't believe it's unethical in and of itself. I certainly wouldn't have aired this though as the animal goes from slightly quatering to the shot to quartering away before the arrow arrives. Only by the grace of God did this shot find the animals vitals!
With this being said, I would have not been offended and embarressed had I not seen the last segement. After making a well placed shot, he shoots the buck, completely facing away from him, and hits him in the right flank! The edited-in announcer states" I never pass up a second shot."
Are you KIDDING ME?? I was appaulled and dumbfounded!! Why would he do this? Why would you AIR this??
I think that as sportsmen, especially sportsman ON TV, we need to show a little more common sense...and dare I say...be an EXAMPLE to young and new hunters! There are people watching that will now think this is how it's supossed to be done!
I have seen many other shows of yours and found them to be entertaining and well done. This is the biggest reason I take the the time to write to you. Please don't let the pressure of producing kills for the camera taint the starndard to which you and WE hold you to...the ethical, fair and humane standard.
I have voiced my opinions elswhere and will attach the link as well. http://forum.hunting.net/bbs/topic.a...56&FORUM_ID=19

RE: Pan-hunting TV HACK!
I saw the same show, and I couldn't believe some of the shots this guy was taking. The one buck he shot looked to me more like a paunch hit that entered behind the shoulder and angled back due to the fact that the deer was slightly quartering to him. Then as the deer is walking off unaware of being hit, he lets one fly and hits it right in the rump. Then we have to hear him talk up his bowtech patriot as aiding him in doing this. He could have made poor shots with any bow. Not the bow, just the shooter. Gut and butt, what great shot selection. It just upsets me to see stuff like this shown on TV. You can make a bad shot anytime, it happens to everybody, but on purpose is getting carried away. Just venting.

RE: Pan-hunting TV HACK!
I was so unimpressed I'd forgotten the show, until the mention of the Patriot. It's too bad he felt compelled to make it sound as though the bow made a poorly selected shot possible. I can't count the number of bad and long shots I've mistakenly passed up with my Pat. Now all I need is that video camera.
BTW, not much of a stalk if he ended up with a 50 yd shot.
Phil.

RE: Pan-hunting TV HACK!
I thought Buck McNeely was bad, but this guy is a travisty to bowhunters everywhere! I first caught the show on Wed. Jan.8th, and could not believe it, but it is even more unbelievable that they aired it again.

RE: Pan-hunting TV HACK!
I am glad to see that we have so many ethical hunters on this board.
I completely agree that taking shots like the ones mentioned here are bad! Putting them on TV is bad!
I must admit though, this is NOT something new as far as hunting videos go.
Watch some of the early videos....Dan Fitzgerald, Ben Lee, and the video that sold more than any other.. Bowhunting October Whitetails!
Many shots that most of us would not take. Nor should they have.

My god yes, unfortunately I did see that show. I was completely amazed at what I was seeing. I think what amazed me more than the unquestionably unethical shots he was taking was the fact that they actually showed them on air. Somebody has to watch and approve those shows. Quite frankly I would think the host would have been too embarrased to have that show aired for fear of looking like the comlete idiot he obviously is.
The absolute kicker for me was shooting the deer in the ass as it was walking directly away. My jaw nearly hit the floor. I hope I never see anything like that again, on tv or in person.
