deer pattern questions
#11
I hunt public Wildlife Management Areas for about ten years before I started leasing land. I never saw a deer on them that I could say I "Patterned" but they would stayin the general area. Unless spooked to the next county. You just have to be patient and hunt the wind properly in a climber. You don't want that doe and fawn coming back anyway! You want that group of bucks to wander by because they smell the "SAFE" scent of doe and fawn in the area.

Its all part of hunting, deer wont move the same every day nor will they always take the same runway. Right now they may move at any time and anyplace. Try to setup abotu 20 yards off a good beaten down runway. This may increase your odds a bit. Then in a few weeks, their patterns will change again as bucks will start crusing and marking their territories. Watch for the change in behavior from the bucks, and watch for the seperation of bachelor groups.

went out today and got dooped. didnt see 1 deer. kind of frustrating. i mean, dont get me wrong, i love being in the woods and watching squirrels and all, but I would like to see some action ya know. drive 30 min there, 30 min back and to not see anything, for the3rd hunt in a row, is a little frustrating. better luck next time i guess.
i have a guy that might lease me some land, which is exciting, so maybe that will come thru. it seems people who own, lease or have private land have much better access to deer in general, especially big ones. ill prob. go back to the public land sat. - ill let ya know how it goes
