During the rut, I mark 20 and 30 yards with the Tinks containers or scent wicks. Usually only need 1 or 2 for each yardage and you can gauge the perimeter around you.

Me also, scent bombs work great for marking yardage.

I range randomdistances to trees etc..But I usually range the animalwitha laser rangefinder prior to shooting.

I'm with Rob on this one. I usually range things out when I first get in the stand and then periodically throughout the time on stand to make sure I remember everything. This is my first year hunting with a single pin adjustable, so it will come into play a lot more these days.
