HOW MANY OF YOU MARK YOUR YARDAGE FOR BOW HUNTING
#11
The woods where I hunt are very thick allowing for only one or two shooting lanes from each stand. All of the areas have distances of about 13-25 of my paces. I have my pins set for my paces at 15 paces(green) and 25paces (yellow).

I usually range distances to various trees, fence posts, rocks, etc around my stand as soon as I get there. My problem is after an hour or so, i forget the ranges to half the objects I ranged and have to do it again (sux gettin old). The only time I mark distances is if I'm overlooking a field or open area and want to know where my effective range ends. I may take a piece of flagging tape tied to a branch and stick it in the ground.

I use a predator IV pendulum sight, don't need a bunch of markers. All I need to know is if it's under 35 yards. If I have to range it, it's probably too far away and if it's that far away, I've got time to range it.

I prerange many things with my laser rangefinder but I don't mark it out on the ground. I have my range finder on my chest with those bino straps, a quick check and I'm drawing my bow.

My brother in law gave me some stakes(like tent stakes) that you can put the wicks in for scents and lures. They are different colors and I will be using those as my yardage markers. Pretty neat idea.

I don't mark anything. The less scent I leave around the better. For the most part I can tell within a yard where 30 yards is, and that's as far as I'll shoot at an animal. My sight is set for 25 yards and even with a slow speed of 264 fps all I have to do is determine if the animal is within 30 yards. If so, hold the middle of the chest cavity and make my best shot. No holding high or low or trying to guess yardage. I do it this way to avoid brain overload. KISS.

When I put my stand up I take pictures, then I will range trees in the area and then mark them. I will study the view from my stand all season so I know where I can take my shots

I put a big pile of corn where I want them to stop.
Just kidding.
In the past I have use a 30 yard rope and tied one end to the bottom of the tree and would make a mark or tie a ribbon at 30 yards. Now I have a range finder and I just laser it and mark.
