Has anybody hunted in the Kaibab national forest in Arizona before? A friend and I were planning a possible archery trip to the Kaibab for mule deer in September, and I was wondering if anybody had any experience hunting here. My friend used to live in Arizona and he had some pretty good success in the Kaibab, so if we go, I will have someone along who knows the area pretty good.

I've lived here for about 18 months now. I recently went hunting in The North Kaibab for Turkey. Nice place. Good facilities if you want to haul a camper up there and find your own piece of the forest. Big place and elevation from 7000-9500 MSL.
There is a map you can get that shows the Kaibab but they only sell it up there. If you want more info on it try this web site:

At the ranger stations they sell nice Topos for $5.
I've never been in the South Kaibab but it is bigger (1400 square miles versus 1100 square miles for North Kaibab). I did see lots of Muleys in the North, that's really the reason I went I'm not really a Turkey hunter but it got me in the woods for a while.
I'm interested in heading up there for the Sep season as well.
