How does this spot look? UPDATED

hunsuckers middle 2 dots are 2 i was describing....
mo...i dont know how big the missouri is, but the ohio is over 300yds wide (dang i just ranged it last month and cant remember the number! but its 300+ ) and its not uncommon to find deer on the banks that didnt make the swim. i usually find them washed up in areas where there arent woods around, which definently makes me believe they swim it...never SEEN them swim it...but i dont doubt it...
depending on the size of that island, id almost be there would be deer on it..

I like hunsuckers spots, + one right along river. I have hunted river bottoms for 23 years now. One thing i have learned bucks like to run along the river during the rut. Also like to bed down along the banks also.
Here is the biggest issue, getting to the spots without spooking deer. If you can take a boat to the stand I would suggest doing so in the mornings. The deer will be out feeding and you can sneak in behind them.
Find a spot close to the river and a pinch point, have itso you can shoot the funnel and any deer that is between you and the river. Have the river 20 yds behind you. Get high in the tree, this will help with the wind. If one gets behind you, you will not be winded. Your scent will shoot right down the river.

Germ, thedeer I postedwas killed in exactly the scenario you described, during gun season(rut) and was at most 10 yards off the river in a little line of trees that run along the river within the woods.

I have friends that hunt the bottom fields of the Mississippi River and they have seen Deer swim across it many times when they were hunting, even in the Winter time!MOBowHuntr if you do happen to use a boat to access the property be careful and always wear a life jacket!Rivers can be very dangerous and have swift currents! Good Luck Bow Hunting...looks like you have an excellent spot with lots of potential.

Mobo, the most northern tip of your boundry line that comes to a point is whereI would put my big buck stand. Just leave about 20 yards from your spot and the river. As long as it isn't a full moon you can enter your spot right thru the feed fields.(the furthest outside edge ofcourse)I have done it a jillion times in the dark. The deer will just stand there and stare at you as you walk by. I have a small mouth grunt I use when walking back. A couple of soft grunts and you will see them put their heads down and go back to feeding. Go in and hour before sun up and if you do spook a few they will calm down when they feel the danger is over. Like Germ I hunt river bottom land exclusively. I didn't just throw a dart and pick that spot. I have learned something about deer travel and proved it to myself the last couple of seasons.

MOHO, are you talking due north of the eastern pond?
Man you guys, this is what I'm talkin about !! I was hoping to hear from some of you guys that hunt river bottoms alot......I know river bottoms are great places, but I don't hunt them much, and I've never had a river as a boundary before....I'm getting more jacked up all the time....Season opens the 15th, saturday, and I'll be headed there the following monday if the wind is good......I may hunt it a couple times in the afternoon, then back out till late October into November.

Mobow,
Looks like the experts told you where to hunt, but since you werekind enough to post a photo with the coordinates, maybe some of us will see you there.

(Good luck!)

U talkin about the island on the river? You really think there would be deer out in the middle of the Missouri River? I don't say that condecendingly, but intrigued.....I would never guess in a million years deer would swim the river......Though they would certainly be secluded...

Here's a few spots I thought of. Some of them are what others have said that I agreed with. The one to the far west looked like a good spot because the timber gets narrow there then opens up on both sides again, kinda like a pinch point. Another good one is the spot to the far northeast point. It looks (according to the pic) like there is some kind of a path tha runs down through the timber might be a good spot to catch them cruising between the river and the open field to the south. Just something to think about. Looks like some good land tho. I hope you kill a bruiser. And when you do give me a call and I will come help you drag it out if you need help.

I love MOHO's spot as well, the only thing to consider there as well as the east side is any yahoo hunting the property to the east and you know that's going to happen.[&:]
Dending on the distance that woods carries, I still like the middle dot where I first described that pinch point. I don't know the distances here but any deer walking the woods has to cross that pinch point, again depending on the crops...you'll know that when you get out there.
