that new boot smell?
#1
What do you guy's do to get rid of that new boot smell? I washed the outside of the boots with scent free detergent and sprayed them with scent killer. The insides are another story. I don't want to get them wet because they will really start to smell like mildew. I did spray some scent killer inside them and have had some fresh earth wafers sitting in them for about a week now. They still have that new shoe smell. Can you guy's offer some tips?

If you hunt around cattle pasture, put the boots on and hike through some muddy spot covered in cow manure. I got new boots last year and hunted almost exclusively in the back of my dad's pasture. After a couple of trips to the stand and back, I no definately did not smell new boots.[:'(]

I don't think you have to worry about the smell. For the most part the smell will stay inside of your boot. I personally don't think the deer will be able to smell the "new boot smell." After a couple of hikes it should wear away anyway. Like any new car smell, it is hard to get rid of the smell, it just goes away after time.

id wear them around hiking/scouting for a while. i never wear new boots anywhere till they are broken in. while breaking them in, i always have another pair somewhere handy so if they start to hurt, i can get them off. i know my White's were stiffer than heck when i first got them. took dang near a month of wearing to loosen them up...
i heard by very knowledgable people that leather boots should be soaked completely and walked dry 3 times to break in...i guess the leather dries to your foot better and gives you a better fit..
sore feet on stand all day would be no fun. id definently wear them and break them in good before hunting in them.
wearing them will also get rid of the smell...

Tromp around in the mud for a while. Let the mud bake dry, then hit 'em with a hose and brush to clean them off. Let the air dry. (outside) HIt them with some sort of scent away spray let that air dry (Outside) Then store in a scent free container of some sorts.
