I don't think you have to worry about the smell.For the most part the smell will stay inside of your boot. I personally don't think the deer will be able to smell the "new boot smell." After a couple of hikes it should wear away anyway. Like any new car smell, it is hard to get rid of the smell, it just goes away after time.
