Jeff, I ordered some Gateway Rayzr Feathers and fletched my Maximas thatI shoot out of my Allegiance and I couldn't be happier. I have not yet shot any broadheads using them but I am sure they won't dissapoint. I am shooting tighter groups now than I ever have with blazers or any other vanes for that matter. By the way this is the first time I have ever used feathers. So, I am still weighing the advantages and disadvantages. Nevertheless, so far I have been impressed. Heres a pic of my arrows.

I have used Feathers for the last 20 + years, I use 4 inch with a RH and have no issues stabilizing broadheads

something to look at is what do you do once the arrow passes through a deer, I typically set it aside until after the season and then re-fletch

Also you will need to look at something to put on the feathers if hunting in the rain, they will not repel water like vanes

But they are worth the extra trouble for me

Quick:

I shot BH's for the first time, last night...in prep for the season. Everythings fine.

I ordered gateways for my longbow.....shield cut....RH. I guess I'll try a few of them on my compound arrows and see.

Thanks Rob/Fran/PA/Arthur/Bruce......Everyone!.....

Excuse me children, may I interupt your cat fight to make a statement back on topic?

I use 5" RW parabolic shaped feathers. I've been using them for years in my compound and my recurve. I found them to be much more durable than vanes. Vanes tear and and when you v-cut them to repair the tear they whistle. They also start to get ripples in them. The only time I've had to replace my feathers is when they get ripped off the arrow. I have several practice arrowsthat have several sections missing and they continue to hit on point. I also haven't had any problem with wet feathers because I tune my arrows bareshaft first so they hit on target without anything on them so the feathers just help compensate for a bad release. I haven't bought vanes in years so I don't know what they cost but if you buy feathers in bulk (25 or more) they aren't that bad. Also if you do get your own jig and a cutter you can start using your own turkey feathers from your spring gobblers! They look tres cool. I have several flu flu arrows with natural turkey feathers on them.

Can we stay on topic here?

I am shooting feathers with my compound this year for the first time. I decided to try it just out of curiousity. I fletched 3 arrows two offset, 1 helical with feathers and shot them side by side with the vanes flectched offset.

With field points, can't tell a bit of difference out to 50 yds.

Tried broadheads. With BH on a vaned arrow, shot good, at 40 yrds about 4 inches low/left from field point groups.

With feathers, well just say when walking up to the target I can't tell which one is the broadhead til I start to pull the arrows.

I will be hunting with feathers this year, but shoot 3D with vanes for durability.

Thanks, guys.....but I think it was a thread I started. I can't help it I'm being stalked.

Feel free to stay on topic, though.....or start your own thread. Sorry it got sidetracked.
