Just a survival tip. Several people have already mentioned a small mirror for signaling planes etc. A great substitue is a CD or DVD disc. The surface will produce a "flash" even in cloudy conditions. My boys love watching the survival shows and told me about this when I was packing for a caribou hunt.

A thought just occured to me. I remember a time when I had a headlamp go bad. Now I always have a spare in camp.
If you get a bull down in the evening and you are miles from camp a quality headlamp in invaluable for the climb down especially if you are carrying a load.
In days gone by, I can recall being laughed at for wearing a light on my head. Now almost every one I see has one.

Hey, Greg. You have received quite a response and many great suggestions, especially the super glue. You mention that you have a back pack but do you have a light pack frame? If you get a bull down in a deep canyon or remote area, you will need to quarter and pack him out. It is a lot easier with a light pack frame than carrying quarters on your shoulders. Nope, no pack frame yet. I'll look at one of those this weekend. I'll pick up a nice headlamp, too.
I will have a small mirror with me, as I'm thinking about wearing face paint on this hunt in lieu of a full mask because I'll be moving and it'll be hot.

I was just thinking and I don't believe I saw any mention of thermal underwear. I have on a few occasions encountered some cold weather even in Archery Elk Season and long underwear was necessary. It will probably be too warm but better to have it and not need it that need it and not have it.

#1 item a GPS! First time I went I didn't have a GPS. Next time I went, I had 2, one in case the other broke! I never want to get lost again!I might show up at your show this weekend at bass pro.I will wish you good luck!

It sounds like you'll be packing back in so this may be of no help to you but I have hunted quite often in Coloradoand found that when packing meat out those cheap plastic sleds are a life saver. I'm talking about the cheapo sleds that kids use that weigh about a pound. I know some people will laugh but it's a lot easier to pack a 1 pound sled up the mountain than 75 pounds of elk down. I usually strap one to my pack and then leave it at the top where I know I'll be coming back. Then I strap the quarter to the sled through a few pre drilled holes. This way I can either slide it easily behind me or let it slide out in front of me going down the mountain. It feels like a fraction of the weight. Think about it. Would you rather carry a 150 pound man piggy back or pull him in a sled. Now, I don't just slide the sled over the side and hope for the best I tie a rope to the front of it and hold the loop on the other end. I've used my pack frame as well as the sled technique and let me tell you that if the terrain permits it the sled is definitely a lot easier on the body. Just a little tip I've picked up.
Here's a sled similiar to what we use.
But now that I found this one it looks like it may work better.
