With all the talk about the rage BH's, I bought a pack and tried them out. My first observation is, I will not trust them to stay closed without a rubber band around the middle. I pushed the blades behind the rubber O-Ring designed to hold them shut. I had my doubts even before I shot that the blades would be held back. My bow is tuned very well and when I shot I could see some wobble and the arrow hit 3" high from 30 yards. The practice head flew perfect and hit the bulls eye. I tried again with the BH and same thing. So I got a rubber band from my hammerheads and put it around the middle of the blades. Shot again and no wobble and a perfect bullseye. I then put a piece of paper on my block 4X4 and shot another with the rubber band in place. Another perfect shot and about a 1 1/2" cut in the paper. The blades still opened on impact with the rubber band in place. The Rage does not come with rubber bands and wasn't designed to be used with them as far as I know. But there is a nice groove that holds the band in place, but it opens easily on impact.
My 2-blade "Rocky Mountain Snypers" (AKA Rage) came with rubber bands to hold the blades closed. My bet is that the rubber bands were prone to breakage and were replaced by the o-ring. It seems you may just be reverting to the old, albeit more reliable way of doing business.

The o-ring on the Rage BH does nothing to hold the blades closed,it simply absorbs impact shock when the blades deploy. I guess w/o it the blades could break on impact?

Nice review jmbuckhunter and you touched on something that I've always preached. I don't care what broadhead one chooses to shoot be it mechanical or fixed, everyone! should shoot them to be sure.

I shoot the RM Snypers, the Rage original look alike. I've had zero problems with them as far as flight or opening ect...I am thoroughly impressed with them. HOWEVER,

when a friend of mine shot them, they hit high and right....his Muzzy and field points hit perfectly so he stuck with Muzzy....had he not shot them and simply trusted they flew like field points...NOT.

Now out of my Allegiance, I have Muzzy, Snypers and field points all flying together, same out of the Tyrkon.....but everyone shoots differently.

Great review and post jmbuckhunter. Thanks.

Nice little write up. Good advice and good thoughts to ponder. Going to be lots of folks shooting these in another month or so.

This is a scary comment because:

The o-ring DOES hold the blades closed.

I shot some again yesterday with the same result. I do suspect the blades are opening slightly on take off and thus making noise in flight. I could fix them as jm, but opted to stick to the tried and true strikers. They flew perfectly out to 70 yards with my field tips, so why switch. Best of luck to all who's using the Rage, i'm sure they are quality heads, just my personal experience and no sense changing wha't not broken. Season begins in 20 days, no time for making big changes.

I've been thinking of putting rubber bands on my blades just for taking them in and out of the quiver. I may use them for sure now. One thing I know is they fly dead on out to 50.
