Its never been an issue for me either. The range I go too has targets from 10 to 50 yards. Th ebulk of them is at 20 yards, but that is the most used range during deer season around here.

The one that really bothers me is when they brag about grouping in a 3" circle but when you finnaly shoot with them they cant keep them in a paper plate circle at 20, and then the excuses start, go figure!!

i got a buddy JUST like that.

"i dont shoot deer past my top pin"

"i shoot like crap passed 20yards"

"i aint goin to the 3d shoot i suck"

quit yer cryin and practice!!! you aint gunna get better at 30 and 40 by practicing at 20 all day!!

he sent me a pic of a group he shot...been a decint group...looked like my 35yd groups...asked him how far..he said 15yds. i was just like oh....i shot a group at 15yds once...i robinhooded my arrow...that was enough shooting groups!

ohhh well hes a hard head and wont listen to a word i have to say...just today i put him in his place...jokingly..but he got the drift. we were talkin to his uncle..my buddy said well i think im going upto the field to shoot. the uncle says oh you going with him? i was like ahh i will go watch..hes like ya go give him some pointers. i was like ohhhhhh no i dont give pointers...im new to bowhunting..i dont know nothing and just like to blow money on expensive stuff...im some kind of idiot...my friend just gave me the stare...lol. he tells me that all the time...

to each his own...i want to be the best that i can...but thats just me....when were at a 3d shoot and they are shooting from the 2nd stake i will be shooting better than him from the 3rd stake without a range finder...last year within the first week of shooting for the first time ever in life i was shooting better then him....he just dont practice...when he does its from 20yds. occassionally 30 maybe a few from 40..but you cant get better at 30 and 40 by practicng at 15 and 20!

hehehehe me and my buddy challenge each other with different off the wall shots from as little as 5 yards to 60 yards. We mix it up pretty good. We never shoot the same distance everytime. Why should you. I mean if you have a deer come in and its 33 yards away, you should know that distance. You should know how to shoot the shot. Dont get me wrong I wont shoot at a deer at 60 yards in a hunting situtation, but you can bet I will bust one at 45 yards and not think twice about it...

If I was shooting in my backyard with someone, yeah it would bug me because I'd get bored, like someone above said 20 is a warmup. But if I was at the club shooting on the range, I'd just move on over to wherever I felt I needed to shoot at.

I preferably just don't like to shoot past 30 yds, because i am not goingto shoot a buck past that. When I first started bowhunting I had a very experienced bowhunter tell me that he never shot past 20 yds, because his chances of recovering the deer dropped past 20yds. He harvested and recovered over 25 deer in a row with this philosophy, so after trial and error on my behalf I started to emulate him.

Practicing at longer distances always makes the shorter ones seem like chip shots. I sometimes practice out to 50yds,but I won't shoot a deer at more than 25.

I'm a loner Dottie, a rebel.

I shoot alone most all of the time.

I shoot alone 98% of the time. I have the "yard" to do it. I can shoot anywhere from 3 yds to 100+ if I want to but 70 has been my max. Anyway, occasionally my neighbor, the young man that lives with his folks nearby, will come over. He likes to shoot close in, 15-20yds,but will go out to 50 yds if I ask him too. We don't shoot distance much when he is over though so I came up with a different way to shoot close in. I can print targets with some software I have and I print 4 circled X's on one sheet of paper. We put two of those targets on each bag target (8circled X'sper bag). Then we see who can empty their quiver the fastest and score the best hits. It's fun and helps you acquire and shoot targets in a short amount of time which I think could help when you have a limited window to shoot your animal. You may want to give that a try with your friends.

If I had friends, we would shoot from all over. lol.

I understand what you are saying. I have not had that problem. We climb my trees, stand on the house. Pick random spots from ranges of 5 yards to 65 yards and practice. My wife says it looks like a bunch of kids out playing cow boys and indians.
