Default How many a day?

How many shots a day can you take before getting sore and struggling to draw back. I am 24, not freaking 70 and I am just feeling weak. I used to bench over 200 pounds, but I am getting sore after drawing back 10 times and that is only 55 pounds.[:'(]

I am just getting started so maybe I need to take a couple of days off to let the soreness wear off? I had been shooting 70 pounds all week so maybe that is what caused it. Any suggestions??

definently take er easy for a while. when drawing a bow, you use alot of muscles that arent used for much else in everyday life. when you feel yourself getting tired hang the bow up. shooting tired leads to bad form and bad habits that are tough to break. if your overly tired to start, lower draw weight and take a break for a couple days till your rested up. no problem with working upto your desired weight...just dont push yourself too hard...injuries can ruin whole seasons and come quick if you arent careful...

I shot 30 arrows this morning and started to feel it, that's when I stop.

I would have to say around 60 arrows. I have been shooting a lot since April.

What mauser said,

If you are just getting back into it ease into it. I was really sore for a good while when I started
earlier this year and have gone from 55# to 61#, and its easier than when I started.

Now I can shoot about 30+ times without any real fatigue. Just regular shooting should get you there.

Thanks guys I am going to take your advice and take a couple days off. I think I just strained some things I hadn't used in a while. Hopefully within a couple of weeks I will be up to 30 arrows before tiring.

It's amazing how much a few pounds can make. I struggle with 70 lbs. I can only pull it about 4 or 5 times, and never pull it smoothly. I can pull 65 lbs smoothly about 6 or 8 times and then I start getting shakey. I can pull 62lbs almost all day long. I don't understand how just a few pounds makes such a difference, but it does.

Also, don't go necessarily by how much you can bench... while the ol' "how much can you bench?" has always been the layman's standard for strength, it doesn't necessarily translate itself into ease of drawing a bow. I've always considered myself reasonably strong, as I've been involved in some sort of athletics my whole life through high school, college and afterwards and have spent more than my share of time in the gym myself...

But, I was shooting in the back yard a couple years ago when a friend stopped by who was a frequent lifting partner. Now, I was and am nowhere in this guy's league, but he pushed me hard and was a great partner. He was a starting Division-I outside linebacker, and could probably throw up close to 400 in his heyday. He just took the title of Missouri Show-Me Naturals last month in his very first bodybuilding contest... The point of all that? He struggled mightily to pull my bow back -- and it was set at 65. He watched in amazement as I sat cross-legged on the ground, held my bow arm level, and effortlessly drew the back slowly and under control.

Practice, practice, repetition, repetition... you get the idea. Being muscle-bound isn't necessarily what's going to help. I know you may not have been implying that, but the point is that it's just going to take shooting -- a lot.
