If antlers mattered to casual hunters wouldn't they shoot deer with bigger racks instead of the spikes and 4 pointers?
There's the next 10-pager if you'll run with it.

Bear don't have antlers and I am extremely excited to go on my first bear hunt this fall. So excited that I have been baiting since April to hunt in September.

My opinion, If deer didn't have antlers their might be a few less hunters, but the majority still would. For those trophy hunters, they would still find a way to prove their deer was better than the next guy. Probably the same as how they do it with bear, weight, skull measurements, squared hide.

That's just it though. Casual hunters everywhere shoot anything with a point on its head. If they really cared about antlers wouldn't they be buying in to all the QDM and TDM? I do understand what you and Germ are saying but it doesn't seem they care about antlers so much as shooting a buck regardless of antler size. I don't see these casual hunters taking a spike to the taxi. If there was a way to distinguish bucks from does (if no antlers) wouldn't these same casual hunters still shoot them?
See there lies the oddity. they care soooo much about antlers that they will shoot a buck JUST because it has them, but they don't want to take the next step of waiting for a big one, cause then they may not get one at all. These guys aren't just out to shoot A deer, they want to shoot A buck, and that's all that matters. These guys would shoot a buck regardless of the distinguishing factor that set it apart from does.

And there you go. No casual hunters would be lost if there were no antlers. They would still be out there shooting their bucks. They just wouldn't have a couple of spikes to throw in the bin in the garage .

Bruce they nail them to the garage

I would truly love to see MI have 0 buck tags for a year Bruce we tried to get it to one from two, and it was ugly[8D]

A lot of MI hunters do not look past Nov 15th(gun opener) Nothing wrong with that either, just the way it is here.

Thx for the civil debate. Maybe your right, would nothurt me a bit if I was wrong

Bruce do you guys have buck poles is MD?
