Is this how YOU feel about hunting?

Fair enough. But....do you think the number of people hunting deer in MD would go down if deer didn't have antlers? Do you think the harvest numbers would go down?
If the answer to either of those questions is "yes"....then you would need a more liberal season. That's all I was thinking....and again....it's just an opinion.

That would depend on if you think casual hunters are after deer or antlers. Personally, IMO, I think casual hunters are after deer. An avid hunter would be after antlers. Just read threads here about how the avid hunters have set antler minimums to challenge themselves. I just read something by a guide/hunter thatsaid he would tag out early and hunt something else but he would still shoot the same amount of deer. So, it is IMO that even the avid hunter, the one that is actually after antlers, would still tag out also.

You are right, like shed33 said "Would we even know" We are looking at ourselves or die hard fisherman.
How many causual fisherman drive 4 counties? But they still buy a Lic. I think we would lose the causal hunters money.

When you talk of a loss of money are you talking nationwide/industrywide or your neck of the woods?

Casual hunters don't drive 4 countys either and they still by licenses. If antlers mattered to casual hunters wouldn't they shoot deer with bigger racks instead of the spikes and 4 pointers?

All bucks matter here
Bruce the MI forum got picked on my IN forum because we "shoot anything" Buck.I think it a regional thing. If I lived in MD would I have a different view.
My uncle has shot bucks on the run(gun) than anyone would care to know. This is opening day
I always ask "where was he standing", "Oh he was running this way, I shot him around here"

That is a fair point. I am sure that in the "deer states" the casual hunter is different in that respectthan in the other states but then, how many deer states are there? Also, using that logic I am assuming that the casual hunter is as heavy into QDM as he is antlers?

To casual hunters in PA, it only matters that they HAVE antlers. From what I have seen here, these people care WAY more about antlers than the QDMers.

Why go? Because you like to hunt and challenge yourself with different areas that you don't know like your backyard? Mature bucks without antlers would still be the same challenge, right? And going to a different place, one that doesn't have your 25 permanent stands because you know where the deer are, would be an even bigger challenge, right? It would still be the same challenge, the bucks would still be as smart except you would not have the rack to show your friends. And we hunt mature bucks because they are the smartest and more of a challenge, right? LOL

Question I have is it worth the money to shoot the samething in your own backyard?I spent 390.00 on out of state tags. I can shoot 5 deer in MI, that is plenty. I paid the money to go hunt bucks in KY and Ohio. I just do not see myself paying to go shoot the exact same thing. I can understand why duck hunters do it today. They follow the ducks, but the deer are here and they all look the same
Than again maybe I would[8D]
