Most of us are too cheap to spring for the bucks of a Stanislawski release.[&:]

There are lots of good releases out there. However, Carter Enterprises probably makes the greatest variety and right up there for the best quality. They make true back tension, back tension with safties, thumb button, thumb and little finger, and true trigger releases. You can't beat them for smoothness and adjustability. However, they are a little pricey. You also asked if a new release would change you bow's tune. It will not change the tuning of your bow but you probably will have to adjust your sight. Your point of impact will almost certainly be a little off. There are very few releases that impact the same. A release is a very personal thing but I would suggest that you try several and buy the best one you can afford. They last a long time.

So far, the only real difference I have noticed between releases outside of the release itself, is slight changes in draw length. Going from a Carter Quickie 1 wrist release to a Carter Chocolate addiction increased my draw length about 1/2". I really like the Carter releases, but as others have abundantly noted, kind of a subjective choice, no real right or wrong to it.
