RE: One deer states.....2 deer states.....ramblings...
So there shouldn't be a "set way" to discount how rapid one gains his/hers either, right? This thread wasn't about "me". Just rambling........that's all. Just like my "location" thread......I think people get upset when someone questions something usually considered "sacred" in hunting (i.e.....in this case......'it takes years and years of experience to....... ____________'). So, the more years someone spends hunting the more opt they are to learn more about their quarry. Granted it's not always the case but it tends to hold true. I just think there's ways for some people to straighten out the learning curve.... Is it ALL about the numbers? Nope. But...it also doesn't hurt......especially if all other aspects of hunting are being fast-tracked, as well. Is there a fast-track to experience? I think so.....but it's also why I asked the question. I knew it would be controversial. Have a good weekend, guys |
RE: One deer states.....2 deer states.....ramblings...
First, I would like to say those were a couple outstanding posts BigJ...... I know personally the more experience I get the more my hunting style evolves.I amconstantly evolving from what I have picked up each fall. I can certainly tell you I do not hunt or look at a set of woodsthe same now as I did 3-4 years ago. The experiences I have had and will continue to have will keep shaping me in the future as well. RE: One deer states.....2 deer states.....ramblings...
Buckeye.....the same can be said about LIFE! Being 42 yrs old.....and where I am in life (not that its anywhere that 'great' to anyone else....but it's great, to me;)) I think it's easier for me to straighten those curves than it would be for a younger man in my position in experience years.
Thanks for the discussion, guys. Though I may agree with you (in part or in whole), sometimes.....I STILL want to know why you're so adamant about things. Thanks for the conversation. Good posts, Rob...John.;) |

Very nice post ahunter55! You impress me as being a person we should all be paying attention to when you share information.

RE: One deer states.....2 deer states.....ramblings...
While I just made a comment about ahunter55's post,I would like to say that there have been a number of really excellent posts! A lot of them have really wrung true for me.
The pursuit to become better and better is so much of the fun and challenge of whitetail hunting! I would expect as Rob had mentioned that most if not all of us are humbled every year. The goal is to minimize the amount of times that happens. |

RE: One deer states.....2 deer states.....ramblings...
Been away for a while. Sorry about the hijack attempt. Back on topic, everyone who hunts gains experience, beginning with practice, hanging stands, game cameras etc. Both hunters gained valuable experience in your example, just different kinds of experience. The hunters who don't gain experience are the ones who only hunt in stands that someone else put up and take the first deer they see, they remain stagnant. To each his own,but time spent in the woods is the best teacher,so spend as much time in the woods this year guys and learn something new. Process you own deer if you haven't (you really learn about the shoulder this way
Good luck to you all this season! |
RE: One deer states.....2 deer states.....ramblings...
I think if people left the word "I" out of their post this thread would be about 2 pages long. So for those of you that know a ton about hunting big bucks, tell us about that. This is a deer hunting forum and there seem to be many with so much expierence so lets here your stratagies. I'm eager to learn.

Strategies change with time and place again it all, boils down to time spent in the woods!

Hunter A. I think the more you put into something, the more you'll get back. I think there is a lot more to learn about hunting than the shot and what happens after, not that you don't need to know a lot to be successful there as well. All that being said, if you're not listening to the lesson, it doesn't matter one way or the other.
