Neither, both have gained the same.
OK....I can live with that.

Now....

Hunter "A" hunts 10x this year......Hunter "B" hunts 50 times.......same harvest record as above......except Hunter "A" does this for 20 years....and Hunter "B" does what he does for 4.

Now what??:)

I tend to agree but don't you think there is some extra tracking experience gained by tracking 8 more animals?
Not to mention getting to full draw.....shot placement....etc...

How many more angles will hunter "B" have to deal with in his 8 more harvests?

Well, to be a bit realistic hunter B know what angles/situations he can shoot well and which ones he can't so he controls the "experience". Each track is going to be different and he has no control over whether it is easy or difficult. Different "experience".

So Bruce.....

Knowing you can shoot at your 3D deer at a certain angle.....and pulling that off in the field are the same?

Now your talking 16 more years in the woods, could hunterB match what hunter A did in his woods?

Ok here it is

Just like comparing the size bucks taken in Ohio to NC. Numbers do not tell the whole story of ones hunting ability, just like the size of the rack;)
Different locations have different deer numbers;) Just like differnet size bucks:)

I know guys who tag out every year, not put them in a location of low deer density and see what happens.

No, but if hunter B only shoots the 10 deer at broadside and inside of 20 yards because he chooses to,has he really gained any "extra" experience?

You're making my point, Germ.;)

JUST because Hunter "A" has more YEARS afield.....does he have more "experience"?

And....are "hunting ability" and "experience" one and the same?

that depends on each hunter Jeff.
I know guys in MI that in 16 years have not learnedsquat. They hunt the same way year after year.

Compare hunters on a generic level is impossible IMO;)

RE: One deer states.....2 deer states.....ramblings...

Agreed, germ.....

MANY would give the "experience" nod to the 16 yr vet, though....based on yrs afield, alone.

Sometimes it's dissapointing when we discover the man who's really behind the curtain. Sometimes....we're pleasantly surprised.

Here's another scenario......

Hunter "A" sees 10 deer from stand all year. He observes intently....and passes on 8 of them.

Hunter "B" sees the same 10 deer.....but chooses to take all 10 of them.

Who has gained more hunting "experience" when the season ends?

Fair?

Neither, both have gained the same.

I tend to agree but don't you think there is some extra tracking experience gained by tracking 8 more animals?
Absolutely. But we were talking about hunting experience. One can gain very little knowledge about hunting and not kill a deer, but gain a ton of expereince tracking without ever flinging an arrow. Just by helping others do it. plus, you can learn how to track properly by reading a book, not true about hunting.
