RE: One deer states.....2 deer states.....ramblings...

Here's my thoughts on the original topic. A person who shoots 10 deer a year gains very little in experience over a guy who shoots 1 a year(but hunts the whole season) except in tracking deer and learning thier reactions to being shot. Other than that, time in the woods is the experience factor in my opinion. Not so much piles of dead deer. Now you give me a guy who's tracked and found a 100 deer, vs a guy who's done so for 5, and I want the 100 deer guy on a tough track.
No rybo....you didn't read the whole post. My premise was the guys who are in the 1 and2 tag states may tag out early....and the guy who has unlimited tags can hunt the entire season. A lot of people stated time in the woods. Many stated animals observed....animals passed on.....but nobody gives much credit to the guy taking a few more deer.

Interesting...

but if both hunter a and b put in equal time, work, sightings, passings, and the ONLY difference is the number of deer killed.

i say they have equal hunting experience, but hunter b definately has a leg up when it comes to tracking.
OK....

I'm confused. Here you are agreeing with tsoc, yet it seems that what he trying to say,is the exact opposite of what you've been trying to get across.
goos....he gave a great answer to a question I asked. I wasn't trying to get across anything. He gave an EXCELLENT answer. I put forth scenarios and asked for your thoughts.

Lets say hunter A and hunter B are both shed hunters.......

If they find the same amount of sheds but hunter A only picks up the sheds from 4 point or better sides and hunter B picks up every shed he sees..... Is hunter B a better shed hunter for picking up more shed antlers?

You'd probably have to ask somebody that gets a rise out ofshed hunting.;)

Jeff,

If I tag out early this season ..say Sept. Do you really think I would be done whitetail hunting for the season. "Killing" in Idaho yes.. hunting them...NOT EVEN... You dont have to kill a deer to be in the woods watching learning etc.. or filming, it'slike hunting with a camera. I've tagged out early in the past.. I either take others huntingand orscout right during the season...nothing changes.. Heck some of the best bucks I have ever found to hunt the following season came from inseason scouting after tagging out.

Sure some could call it a season and watch the NFL.. But not everyone.

The guy that takes more deer is definatley getting more practice at making a shot, tracking and recovering, field dressing, etc.. butchering if you do that too...But guys in 1 or 2 tag states likehere in Idahomay take the time to offer help to others fortracking and packing. Here we do that a lot ELK ARE BIG ...you dont justdrag one out! LMAO...or I can hunt 2 bear, 2 elk, at least one Loper and afall turkey if I choose. All of those kills and recoveriesadd to the shooting, tracking recovering skills as much as killing more whitetails...

well here were aloud 2 buck tags 1 doe tag if drawn so you can have 3 tags unless they have left over doe tags's (dont happen top often) so 3 deer but only 50% of the guys in my zone get a doe tag so 2 buck tags no does most of the guys do hmm need my first deer lol

Jeff I do agree..that the more animals you draw on and kill makes for more learning..it has too..I am just saying taht the only way to get this experience and knowledge doesnt just have to come from hunting a state that allows multiple whitetail tags.. many different ways to gain this knowledge/experience

Buck....

I don't disagree with anything you said. I simply asked a question, earlier.

If the guy shooting all the deer is equally observing......passing on deer....doing all the things the "other guy" is doing.....is he not at an advantage (as far as gaining "experience") due to the fact that he's ALSO killing a lot of deer? It's just a question.

All I'm asking. I dont want anyone to take this personally.
Not for me. I usually shootthree to fourdeer a year with my bow. Shooting 20 wouldn't matter to me. Unless someone is just getting started in bow hunting, I feel that after you have shot a certain amount there is nothing more to experience. Duringmy first three years bow hunting I had highs and lows related to poor shot placement, tracking, knowing when to and not to move, or when to draw, etc... I haven't had anything happen to me the last few years that I haven't seen before. I doubt it will change in the future. For me, drawing my bow, making the shot, tracking, anddragging the deeraretheeasiest parts of my hunt. Scouting, hanging stands, trying to figure out deer, dealing with the cold and heat, time of year, and weather, are what I want to gain experience in. Yes!!! and August 31,I will be doing it all over again. Thats my answer and I'm sticking to it. [8D]

Troy.... this isn't about anyone in particular. I'd say you're the exception to the rule. I'd say most tag out and they're done.

This is what I said....

I kinda feel for you guys who only get1 tag/2 tags. I was thinking about it this morning. You get one tag.....see your deer in the first 2 weeks.....tag him (congrats)....and you're done. To a somewhat lesser extent.....the same is true for 2 tag states.
