Secret Attractants
#21
Another point on this topic - coming from Michigan EVERYONE is looking for a something to help them kill a big buck (because they're aren't very many of them). I've never seen more guys (myself included) who would buy a variety of new "gimmicks" each season thinking they were missing something.
Well, many years later, hunting in Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan - age is the biggest factor to why some of this stuff works sometimes. A 1-1/2 year old buck is about the most "non-edjucated" animal in the woods. You can dupe him with a variety of things that would send a mature animal to another county. Just something to consider.
I used to hunt with the guy who's killed more B&C animals with a bow than anyone I believe (all fair-chase). He doesn't call, use scents, scent-elimination suits, sprays, or attractants! He was the guy that pretty much changed my perception of what most of us have been brain-washed about for years. I have since saved a ton of money on products that don't give you any-more advantage than a food product that can be bought in a grocery store for a fraction of the cost.

I think if everyone used a little more COMMON SENSE, there would be a lot more deer killed. Instead of falling for every money making gimmick(for someone else) out there.

Good points Todd,
I've been slowly realizing this over time, but it is always tempting to look for shortcuts.
I used to use all kinds of scents and I have not had them bring in a mature buck. The big bucks
I have seen were all from doing nothing but sitting still.
But those forks do love them some Tink's 69.

I think back I wonder how many damn deer I scared blowing on a damn grunt call or rattling antlers here in MI. I used to use scents and all that crap. Then I read a few books(John Eberhart)and became friends with Joe Brooks and the rest is history.
It really not that hard, it requires 1 very important step. This step is more important than anything or gimmick IMO
Patients
To me that is the best attractant, and I paid a price to learn that

I use a big secret weapon. Paitence and lots of it. No sents. No sprays. No calls. I do carry a grunt tube in case I need to stop one or just feel like playing with a young buck. Wash clothes before every hunt. I hate laundry come December.
