True, mechanical shoot well but if you tune your bow properly the broadheads will fly well too.Fixed cut on impact...cant beat that. I would paper tune(if havent already) with the broadheads (fixed)on. I think you will be happy with the results.

A lot of guys will screw a broadhead on and shot it. If it hits close they love it and say its accurate. If it doesn't hit where they aim then they blame the broadhead. A fixed head has a higher profile and acts like fletching does on the back. It will "guide" your arrow. If you shoot it from a well tuned bow that shoots the arrow straightthen it will slice through the air and not pull the other way.

Mechanicals may fly better because of their low profile but the arrow can still be out of tune and be losing a lot of energy. Going to mechanicals to get better flight is like bending the barrel of your gun to get it to hit where you want. It may get you the result you want but not in the most efficient way.

The Wasp Jak-Hammer is a good solid head. I become bored trying to break one while shooting it umpteen times into a 3/4" sheet of plywood-it never did break, its blades deployed/opened every time, and penetrated as well as fixed blades under a similar test. This head had reasonably good accuracy out to35 yards-well beyond the effective range of most bow hunters (effective range equalsthat distance from which an archer can hit a target 100% of the time. The vital area of most big game, the "target", is approximately the size of a nine inch paper plate).

I will say this:

Mechanicals are devastating on animals when shot from the right bow! They should not be overlooked. Nor should we make wives tales about their use.

Hope this helps!

p.s. Longbeard, it's hard to take you seriously. I'll bet you any Colorado hunt (on me), you would like to go on, that you cannot hit 10 arrows in a four inch group from 50 yards with your muzzy broadheads. I'll even let you move to forty...

If you lose, I'm going to ask that you put down your bow and take up fishing. The lies are a little easier to swallow in that sport.
