Default Early season (bowhunting) rain gear

Looking to be pointed in the right direction. I need some new, un-insulated, early season rainwear, pants and a hooded parka. I have been using plain saddlecloth pants and hooded jacket for the past five years and the stuff really worked until I shredded it crossing a barbed wire fence before daylight. The last time I researched rain gear, 5 years ago, the market was dominated by Gore-Tex, which is over priced, and the low-end PVC plastic crap which is just unacceptable. As I look through the catalogs now there is a whole new list of quiet, soft and waterproof materials to choose from. I've been doing some reading and like the fact that I can now buy some quality gear, pants and parka, for around $200. I was wondering if you guys could tell me where you got your rain gear, what it is, approximate price, how durable and how well it works.

Thanks,
Toby

I just have a pull over camo Goretex job. I bought it for about $140 on sale at the end of a season. It works. When it's raining the little noise it makes doesn't matter. If it's warm early season I just don't wear anything. I put on a layer of light weight high tech undies and take a bath.

Good question though. I've looked at some of this stuff but it all seems very unbreathable to me. Like saddlecloth. It just seems noisy and stiff and stifling to me. I wouldn't have it.

Toby, Mad Dog (by Stearns) has a hooded jacket for $50. and pants $40. Quiet and waterproof. A little clammy in the warm weather. I have Mad Dog's Silent Shadow set. Much better. More pockets and with a fish net lining to help it breath. $115 jacket, $100 pants. I've been out all day in the rain, and been dry when I got home.

Take a look at Cabela's MTO50 rain gear. I've
had mine 3 years now and wear it mainly during
warm weather and also take it along on hunting
trips away from home. The jacket and pants
each can be packed into a pocket and zipped shut,
awfully handy when space is an issue. It will
keep you dry and is quiet, at least as far as
rain gear goes. I paid around $250 for both
pieces and would not hesitate to recommend it.

columbia omni-tec is all i wear in early and late season. if it ever fails columbia will repair or replace. they have great costumer service. some of the garmets are even packable so you can put them in your daypack.
don't have to treat them with any sprays either.
