Default Why I am taxed with thinning does.....

77 images on my game cam.....from July 4th, through today.

Cam is set on a mineral lick that I have replenished twice in the last 3 months.

ONE small buck on my last set of images.

I can't wait to shoot a pile of nannies.

I have had mine up since July 1, and gotten about 100 pics. However, like you, only one of them was a buck. Rest were does and fawns. At least it was a real nice 8 or 10. It is looking like I may need to do a lil doe management myself this fall.

Holy crap, I have had my camera up since July 5th and when I checked it yesterday I had 274 photos and I am gonna guess that around 80% of the pictures were of bucks.

What happens if you don't have a trail cam? I guess I let it be a surprise when they walk by. Passed 15 different Bucks last year but did thin the Doe population. Good Luck fellas.

So far my photo numbers have been about 2-3 does per buck. I don't figure that is too bad, but 77 to 1, I think I would get a bunch of inexpensive arrows

mobo....ABSOLUTELY I have some "repeat customers". We estimate (wildlife biologist told me) the herd here to be around 50-60.

Figure I'm hunting deer that are traversing a square mile (est.).......and you see why I kept a detailed journal like I did, last year....and why the biologist wants me to take out several does.

I fully agree that there's only a certain number of deer, here. I got over 120 images, last year, in a span of 3 days. But....the numbers are a bit out of whack. Not as bad as many might think.....but...over the top (probably 4:1-5:1).

I picked a BAD year to switch to a/c/c's, didn't I?[&:]

Also.....I've read that a deer herd will lose "members" at a rate of 20% throughout the off-season. Lisa and I have found a few carcasses, shed hunting.....and I've found a couple by the road and pond. If we've found 6.....there's probably another 6 we haven't seen (on the low side....it coud be two times that, who knows?)......and it isn't hunting season, yet. I only know of 5 taken from this herd, last year.....but we're still talking 17 deer that won't be there, this season (hunting). Ah.....but the nannies are having them left and right. If I can take 10 or so of the breeders out, this Fall.....and re-assess, next Spring.......I'm thinking I could have a sweet place to hunt in about 3+ yrs.

All I can do is take sound advice.....do my part...and see.
