High Country claims their arrow will out penetrate a 600 grain arrow. At the speeds that arrow is moving there may be some validity in that claim.

Penetrates Better Than a 600 Grain Arrow

I've been thinking about that value sinceI posted my response. The 1 fps / 5 grains was from OT2 and seemed to be low to me.

Especially after looking at the chart for a comparative arrow from the Iron Mace 3 gpi would be more reasonable.Ineed toshoot the 3D Selects at 72# through a chrony and see how it compares to the GT's. OT2 was giving me only a6 fps increase for an arrow that is 30 grains lighter.

FINALLY....AMEN!!! Can I get a he11 yeah!!! I have been giggling all spring, every time that I shoot mine. It is the fastest, smoothest bow bar none. I got 367 with my HCA's. I am getting over 330 with my Maxima's. Just remember to get the ONE PIECE grip. I got the two piece and it is uncomfortable after 10 shots or so

Matt - thanks a million for your input on this bow. Much appreciated. Same goes for your Swamp Collie.

Since you guys all seem pretty interested in this stuff, here are some random HCA videos. Seriously, you shouldn't be allowed to have this much fun with a bow. LOL

Well, not according to the law of physics. One, Fran would have to kick that 250gr arrow up to over 450fps to equal the momentum generated by say my longbow shooting a 650gr arrow at 180fps. And every engineer knows that even with equal momentum, the arrow with gets its momentum from higher proportion of mass will still out penetrate with several factors being equal like arrow friction, diameter, etc. Also, this considers the resistence of tissue being equal, which also hurts frans setup as now his friction coef of tissue shoots up exponentially with strike velocity.

For penetration, just increasing his arrow wieght to 450 with a velocity of 260fps would get him the same momentum of a longbow shooting a 650gr arrow 180fps.

"with several factors being equal like arrow friction, diameter, etc."
BC - just to play devil's advocate here - my arrow is as thin as a pixy stick.

...and the laws of friction change when the materials exerting the force of friction are viscous liquids, soft tissues and bones of varying density. The entire penetration problem is a dynamic one. It's not a nuts & bolts plug-and-play equation.

Anybody wanna bet me if I can blow through a whitetail? I've got $20 that says I can.

Well, not sure about the laws of friction, but the coef of friction changes from liquids/soft tissue, and bones, but one thing does remain constant on all these materials and that thier resistence goes up exponentially with velocity.

I am not saying you can't blow thru a whitetail, I am responding to some who believe marketing hype. Or believes in videos from youtube. Physics is physics.

He doesn't have to go as high as 450 grains at 260 fps. Which would actually be slow for his bow with that arrow. Anyway, I'm over that value with 421/293.

Fran,

I want to see just a hide and some sinew from your first deer. That arrow may zip through, slice through, dice throughlike a Ginsu. But if it blows through there won't be much left. Just like Rambo with his 90# bow and explosive tipped arrows!!!

BC - I think you've been reading too many ballistics charts. Strike Velocity will only have a noticeableaffect onpenetration at extreme, hypersonicspeeds (think .22-250 at 3500 fps into a vat of ballistics gel, or the Mythbusters episode where they were firing rifles into a H2O column).

In terms of archery, our speeds are so slow that "strike velocity" is a nonfactor.

Dave, I probably never told you this, but I am the illegitimate son of Rambo.
