He has semi auto 12 gauge.

Shoots them until they stop moving Leave no shell unfired

In 2001 I ate tag soup and in the gun season I told trigger I was seeing the big 8 in his area to hold off. Well he calls me at 8:00 AM to come get a deer. He shot a little 5 point. I threw it the truck and he was going to hunt some more. As we are standing there the big 8 runs out chasing a doe. Trigger's gun is over by the tree and i am laughing my arse off

Germ,

That's not my approach and if someone is not the random weekend warrior then I might
spread the "gospel" of QDM.

My main point was that "some folks just can't be reached."
Their hearts are just not ready to receive (PT understands ).
Here is the problem .... not everyone thinks the same!!!! DOI!!! My feelings on TDM, (and if the "QDM" guys would admit it, that's what they are ..... and by the way, I don't see anything wrong with it ... whatever floats your boat)are different depending on my situation.

Years back I owned land next to a farmer who would not shootsmall bucks. I took a nice 3 1/2 year old buck and passed on many smaller ones. Ihunted where I lived, so I could hunt more.

Now, if I can get out twice per week, I'm blessed. I am hunting land where there are tons of guys and it's the old, "If I don't shoot it, someone else will" mentality..... which I also don't have a problem with ....whatever floats your boat.

I love the taste of venison ... when push comes to shove, and the freezer is empty ... if it's brown it's down. Now if my schedule lightens up to where I can hunt more, I'll be more picky ..... but that's me ....

You that only shoot mature bucks need to back of of those that shoot smaller ones, and you that shoot small ones need to back off of those that QDM or TDM or whatever they call it..... whatever the other guys enjoy ... within the law ....

Since I fish a lot I always use this analogy

To me QDM is a lot like fishing. There are legal limits for a fish to be so big, why is it so hard for people to accept size limits for deer? Then you have the C&R guys who are a LOT like the QDM guys who urge others to refrain from killing that legal but small fish (buck).

Hunters getting along QDM(or TDM) guys getting along with guys who shoot "anything"(what they want).

For some reasons there is a hatered between these two groups. Both groups have their share of lies about the other. I can tell you the line is in the sand here in MI. There is know way we will be seeing eye to eye in my lifetime

rybo ... if NYS institutes an antler restriction greater than the current, "one antler of at least 3" in length", I will be the first one jumping up and down with glee .... but until then, if it's legal, I can't get down on the guys that shoot the small bucks. That's all I'm saying.

First buck 1'' antlers
Second tag 4 points on 1 side

It is called a combo tag. I can shoot 2 bucks a year with any combination of weapons. 2 is the max for entire deer season.

The issue with the combo tag is it sets up the "Mullengan Buck" situation.

This is where a hunter shoots the first buck he sees and than hunts for a trophey. Add baiting to the mix and your 1.5 year olds are going to get slaughteredand they do.

Here is how we did for 2006

A survey of deer hunters was conducted following the 2006 hunting seasons toestimate hunter participation, harvest, and hunting effort. In 2006, an estimated691,000 hunters spent 10.1 million days afield. Statewide, the number of peoplehunting deer increased about 3%, but hunting effort was virtually unchangedbetween 2005 and 2006. Hunters harvested nearly 456,000 deer, an increase ofnearly 9% from the number taken in 2005. Statewide, 46% of hunters harvested adeer. About 22% of the hunters took an antlerless deer and 34% took an antleredbuck. About 15% of deer hunters harvested two or more deer.
Now 22% taking and Antlersless deer is even worst. 20% of those were buttons.

I have long said to do two things in MI

Change combo to 1 buck 1 doe any weapon for the entire season.
Stop baiting

Now they above should make everyone happy. Because meat hunters still get to shoot two deer. And the Trophey guys should have more bigger deer as time goes on.

OK, so you would like restrctions higher than those that exist, so you must believe in letting bucks get older before attempting to kill them? And obviously from your calling, you believe in trying to extend and share your beliefs to others. Right? So why wouldn't you tactifully try and share your beliefs about deer hunting and not shooting young bucks to others? Guys might listen a lot better from a preacher than a couple scruffy guys from PA, OH and MI
