You couldn't get a climber in 9 out of 10 trees on most of the tracts I hunt so I certainly have to worry about spending the extra money for one. I'd opt for the more versatile hang-on stand.

However, if your choice is between buying another stand or getting a LRF,.... I'd opt for the rangefind EVERYTIME! A LRF is one of THE most important pieces of equipment I've ever owned and is actually one of the only accessoriesthat I'd actually turn the truck around for IF I even forgot!

I just found my new climber for this year. A Gorilla Greyback Climber. They have last years with the old camo paint for $200. The new one was about $30more. Lucky for me my deer dontkeep up on the new camo.

I'd opt for the more versatile hang-on stand.
Agreed. A hang on used in conjunction with climbing sticks should get you in the best tree available and that is where I want to be, in the best tree available, not the tree that will accomodate my climber.

For me Climbers are too noisy, too heavy, and the places you can put them are just too limited where I hunt.

Hang ons

I would choose a light weight hang-on and a set of screw in steps or climbing sticks. A hang on can be just as portable as a climber with some backpack straps and portable stics. It will also go up a lot more trees.

Buy the stand and mark your ranges on trees surounding the areas you want to hunt. Pace the distances or borrow a friends range finder to help.

look into a chippewa wedge loc, one of the nicest stands I have ever seen and when they are in the tree they do not budge or make a sound. They are a little pricey but worth it

Difference is.....I'll be sitting in my Viper, hunting....while you're sweating and still hanging that stand. I've done both. I'll take the climber if I have to choose. WAY, WAYYYY more versatile.
