Default When to place Salt & or Mineral blocks?

I never placed any mineral or salt blocks before. But I have come across a few places where they were placed, and I have seen pretty much traffic as a result of this.
My question is, what time of year, do those of you who have success with these, place them out?
Thanks for any input.

In the spring when does are pregnant and bucks are starting to regrow antlers. It's this time of year that they need the most minerals. They are tearing mine up right now.

As mentioned, deer will begin to utilize mineral stations during the late winter and early Spring and then continue with heavy usuage through out the Summer. The salt also aids in the digestion of browse and forage at that time of the year. Also, the closer the salt and mineral station is located to a water source, the heavier its usage.

I agree that now is the time but I have found that bags of salt do better than actuall blocks.

I would pour about half a bag of salt and about half a bag of mineral salt on or near a trail and they would tear it up.It won't take long to see a whole starting to form.
