Default How to keep stock tank water clean & fresh??

Any suggestions on how I can keep the water in a 500 gallon stock tank clean and fresh over the summer. The property I bought has a hydrant they used for cattle in the center of the property and now that there is no cattle, I buried the tank and have put a float on the tank and want to make sure the water is fresh and clean.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

If you had some way to aggitated or circulate the water, it would help.

Yip, circulate/airriate it and add a small amount of chlorine!

My grandpa used to keep a couple of small catfish or bullheads in his horse tanks. They eat any insects/larva and small critters that show up.

You would think that the water would taste "fishy" but he claimed that it didn't.

In the old well houses, they kept a constant small flow of water and kept crappie in the water.
