I shoot both. They fly the same. I've killed elk with the regular one, but not the magnum just because I happen to have the regular with me. And it was my practice head too.
Can't go wrong with either one. I'm carrying both to the woods and depends on the spot I'll determine which head to use.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it the old standard slick trick is the same size as the new "magnums." So the new standard head at 1" is smaller than the original standard at 1 1/8". Apparently the new ST also use Solingen steel and are sharper.
Also, larger cutting diamter = more damage, but the trade off is slightly less penetration. As I am shooting deer, I'm going with magnums.

Yes, the original is the magnum. The new design is the smaller diameter. And yes, it is sharper now. Gary could brief you on this history.
That's the only trade off that I can think of. As for deer, you can use the magnum for more damage. I am only using this head for elk.
