There real reason I use a rangefinder is that I can't estimate yardage worth a tinkers damn and I know it.
My favorite reply in the whole thread.

Fair enough, Atlas. THAT assessment is what I was looking for (and not the broad stroke).
I didn't change anything so I don't know how you got two different assessments.

I just never ranged an animal with it. Not once.
I doubt many people are ranging animals in the woods........I don't see the need.

My areas haven't changed.....so I'll likely use one even less, this year.
How fast are your hunting arrows gonna be shooting?

I use one for the simple reason that there is no good reason not to use one (unless you can't afford it).
I'm sure there are folkswho can well afford one and have a perfecty valid reason why they don't use one.Don't you agree Atlas, or are you trying to get another one going?
The best use I have for a RF is to guess the range of something, then range it to see how close Iwas, and to pre-range spots at my stand.

Then you either didn't read the thread
I read the thread........I didn't see any good reasons not to use one.

So even if you don't shoot past 20 yds you should still have a rangefinder?
#1 I didin't see anyone in this thread say that they would not shoot past 20 yards as their reason for not owning one.

#2 YES........unless you hunt the same stand all the time and know the exact ranges of landmarks (which you most likely would need a rangefinder for anyways).

There's just no reason for guessing anymore.

No, I was being totally serious.........I can't think of one good reason why NOT to use one. It can only help and never hurt IMO.

But I am VERY detail focused. It's never "close enough"........or "good enough"..........when accuracy is involved, especially when your target is alive.

If you're referring to me, LC...That was FAR from the truth. I even basically thanked Atlas for rephrasing his initial comment. It was that type of comment I was seeking.

Atlas initially said ....

I use one for the simple reason that there is no good reason not to use one (unless you can't afford it).
Well....there ARE valid reasons NOT to use one....and this thread is riddled with them ....and they were cited by people who are well-known for their hunting conquests. the statement, as put forth, is false.

Reasons cited (for not using one) were:

1 - unnecessary movement
2 - not needed for short range situations
3 - somehting else to carry into the woods
4 - etc...

I don't have the first problem with the amended assessment. It's an opinion....and NOT "wrong", at all.

I know, Jeff, but the thread subject asks for our opinions. Atlas gave you his opinion. In his opinion, there's no good reason not to use one. Wouldn't it have been easier to just let it go at that?
