RE: Are hunters selfish??
ORIGINAL: GMMAT Are you asking if we (as a hunting community) don't offer these spots.....because we're "jealous" of what someone else "might" kill on "our" properties? |
RE: Are hunters selfish??
[blockquote]quote: ORIGINAL: LittleChief [blockquote]quote: quote: How about the stories that we hear about never telling anyone what you see or about a good buck and so on out of fear that your spot will turn into grand central station the next day..........I get that (to a point) but I wonder how much of that is really just a selfish desire to keep something for yourself and not wanting anyone else to have similar success. [/blockquote] I know exactly what he's talking about. If I were hunting in a club with people I didn't know well and I spotted the buck of a lifetime just out of range, I'd think twice about goingback to campthat evening and telling them what I saw. There are people out there who would reposition themselves to get a shot at that deer. Yes, I would say that's being selfish, but I think it's a healthy level of selfishness. [/blockquote] I think a better question is why has hunting communitybecome so competitive. Because of being more competitive we have become more selfish and jealous at the same time and of each other. We use to help each other score a deer, and now we sometimes hinder folks from scoring a deer.Maybe we have lost focus on what hunting is about. That is his point(IMO) |
RE: Are hunters selfish??
I think you should take a poll and ask if people think youasked a stupid question. The answersWON'T surprise you.....but they SHOULD tell you something.
I didn't imply that YOU were stupid. I don't believe that at all. i think the question stinks, though. My opinion. |

RE: Are hunters selfish??
I have allready put a post on here but afterwards a thought came to mind. What bothers me about deer getting hit by cars is no one stops to make sure they are actually dead.My husband was coming home from work and found one still alive. He didn't have anything with him so he had to wait 45 min. for a patrol man to come and put it out of it's misery.
The last one we found we were coming home from up north. My husband was hunting with his grandpa so this time he was prepared. The doe was laying in the middle of the road and I held the flashlight so my husband could check to see if it was alive. She was and he drug off the road shot her, took us home and picked up his truck and went back for her. Both times we got a tag for them so they didn't "go to waste" I don't think people care about the danger they put others in when they just leave a deer in the middle of the road. That is what probably bothers me the most. At least hunters aren't just leaving deer, they put the deer to good use. |
