I was hunting for a bow today and found a used Hoyt Oasis 65pound pull 29" draw, that is my draw length.43"axle to axle 9" brace height. The man wants 250 dollars for it.Do you think it's a good deal for the bow only? How old of bow is it?It's not a single cam but It pulls back smoothly. It will be my first compound, should I keep looking?

The Oasis became the Aspen in 1999, was the Oasis Plus in 1998 and was just the Oasis in 1997 so I'm assuming it is 1997 or earlier. This is a very nice bow for shooting target, very forgiving. It is a little slower (carbonite limbs with command cams should be around 220 fps area) but still a very nice bow. You can find out what cam it is by looking at the side of the cam. It should have stamped something like CT on the top or CB on the bottom. The C means command cam, a M means master cam, an A means advance cam and an E means energy cam. If I remember right new in 1998 when I got my Oasis Plus (basically the same) it cost $499. Depends on you, I would think you may be able to get it a little cheaper. If it fits you and you like it though then that is reason enough to get it.

Thankyou,Iroquois Archer for all the information.I'll have to go back and look at what kind of cams it has.I'm looking for a bow to hunt whitetails with.Is that arrow speed slow for deer hunting?I asked if he would take any less and he said no.What arrow speeds should I look for to have good penetration?

Don't get hung up on speeds, I shouldn't have even mentioned it but you will see a lot of people mentioning it. It is more important that the bow fit you properly, that you feel confident with it and you practice and stay in your comfort range. My Oasis is a 40-50 pound and set at 45 pounds with 27" draw I shoot around 213 fps with my target arrows. My hunting bow shoots about 240 (but it is 53 pounds) and actually a slightly lighter arrow. If you are 65 pounds then you should have enough speed/energy for a hunting bow. The Oasis is a very nice bow so if you like it then there is nothing wrong with it. I was talking to a buddy a bit ago who has an Oasis and he said he got his for $250 used and considered it a real good deal. He also said if you take the grip off the date is stamped in the riser. Don't know if the owner would like you taking the grip off or not but there is that way to see exactly what year it is. Good luck and if you have any other questions feel free to either post here or e-mail me.
