Hunt less often....yet more productively (which, in my instance, will likely go hand-in-hand).

I learned to slow down and remember the basics. Time and success can breed complacency and sloppiness.

For me, its not to take anything for granted. This past year i said i was going to shoot only two bucks. Well long story short, they both ended up dead by cars within the same week. Too bad i didnt know that until later in the season and i ended up passing some really nice bucks because of it. The other thing im going to try this year is to not hunt the sign as much, its tough, but i need to do it. Im also going to try to get closer to the bedding areas as well.

Hunt smarter, not harder.

I learned to let those 120 something inch bucks walk on opening day. Even if he was the 3rd buck to walk by. I know there are better bucks in the area I hunt in IL, but at 11 yards he wqs just too tempting and he will look good on my wall. But later while doe hunting after using my only buck tag, I had a nice 10 point maybe 135-140 inch at 25 yards in the open. So all I could do was take his picture. Next year I will let those 120-125 inch bucks walk and hold out for a bigger one. Not that there is aything wrong with a 120 inch buck. But where I hunt there are plenty of bucks bigger than that. I might not get one but it will be fun trying.

1. I can't kill a deer unless I'm in the woods
2. When your not hunting is when the deer is moving
3. new GPS so I can map deer sign effectivly and efficiently
4. TOPO software to overlay my deer sign onto and find the best routes to and from my stand
5. 07' Guardian, faster and quieter than my 1990 model high country
6. Rangefinder so I can accuratly know my yardage from the stand, I pick out openings to 30 yards in every possible direction.

I learned that a buck, once rattledin, doesn't stick around very longafter he can't find the source of the noise. I'm going to try to get more accurate now that I'veupgraded to a Vectrix XL. I also upped my personal minimum for a buck, if it's not min P&Y(125') it won't get shot. I've killed my share of "decent" bucks. It comes with time I guess.[:@]

Divorse my wife and sell my 3 kids!

Just kiddin, really just look for more time in the stand. At my spot I know where they'll be and when they'll be there I just gotta be there at the same time. I was lucky enough to get 3 does and let several 1.5 and 2.5's walk, but ended up eating buck tag soup. plobably more stands would be on course for me.
