If you're a beginner, I would definitely try to find a knowledgeable pro shop somewhere in your area. There's a lot to be said for having a hands-on experience in letting someone help you with form and fit. They'll be able to walk you through the whole process, and help with accessories and other gear.

Both Hoyt and Mathews are good choices.
Many other good choices also.
Do you have a good pro shop near you?
Try as many bows as you can and find the one that "fits" you.

Any bow in those lines won't be bad. You might want to look at some others though like PSE, Diamond, Ross, Bowtech, Martin, ect. I really think most of these companies $300 plus bows can shoot better than what I can I know you'll hear this a lot but just go shoot them all. I went to a shop thinking i'd be walking out with a PSE Vengence and ended up buying a Bowtech Old Glory. Be careful though this bowhunting is addicting

I guess the bow he left behind is now mine. I started with a PSE Nova, moved quickly to the Vengeance and just bought the new '07 Brute. All PSE's and all great shooters.
