RE: Jealousy
Most hunters are men, most men are competitive, most men can have their egos bruised easily when others have success and they can not state the same. It really is the same in many other things, like careers, other sports, sex life, etc....

RE: Jealousy
ORIGINAL: GregH I think the reason stirs from within the person that has the problem. Who in their right mind would let a set of antlers cause them to resort to jealousy and accusations? |
RE: Jealousy
everybody's going to judge you if they percieve that you think you're better than they are in some way. Most of us don't try to be better than our neighbors, but people will still take you the wrong way sometimes.

RE: Jealousy
It is very rare that you hear people talk about a monster doe they took or saw. People tend not to brag unless it is a "mature" deer. And by "mature" they mean large antlers.

RE: Jealousy
Unfortunatly it is just human nature to be jealous of another who 'out performs' you, especially between deer hunters. I know several deer hunters you will fall into this category. Their is really nothing you can do. As long as their are men.. their will be war.
I like to think that I am not one of these people. I am always happy to have a friend shoot a buck. In fact.. I am down right excited to help look for the deer and take some pics. And when I hear of a giant being shot.. I think.." Where was it shot!?".. NOT "What were the circumstances surrounding the shot." Plus.. I am somewhat of a recluse and only talk deer hunting to the woman to avoid some people and their own thoughts.:) |

Who in their right mind would let a set of antlers cause them to resort to jealousy and accusations? Antlers do not make people crazy; people our accountable for their own behavior and actions. The above statement is why we have such issues in all aspects of life. Someone or something is always to blame, god forbid we take responsibility for ourselves and our actions. BHF I know you do not think this way, but some do and that is the issue. Not the size or how many deer we shoot. |
RE: Jealousy
Germ, your right and I agree with you that people need to take responsibility for their actions instead of passing the Blame. Crazy or Stupid call it what you want but they will do things they normally wouldn't if the antlers weren't there, poaching, fighting, alot of illegal things & have even ended friendships!!! Its unfortunate but it happens!

Not the size or how many deer we shoot. you are 100% right, saying the antlers are the cause of the problemis like saying that guns are the cause of people getting shot. Remember...... Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Same as.........Antlers don't cause jealousy, people cause jealousy. Same as........."If the antlers weren't there there wouldn't be any problems. Same as.........If there weren't any guns, no one would get shot. I do not agree with this type of thinking. |

Its unfortunate but it happens! Sorry we will just disagree on this point. If they act like a 2 year old because of antlers. Then I will bet they act the same way in other aspects in life. Will call it a charcter flaw, I bet there are other events that bring this forward, we just are not there to witness it. Sorry BHF but antlers have nothing to do with it, just a plain charcter flaw IMO. |
RE: Jealousy
Antlers have everything to do with it. Why do people measure them if they don't? Why is there a "book" to list your accomplishments in? How many inches blah, blah, blah. So I tend to believe that if every deer were a slick head we would have way different opinions on hunting. In fact a trophy would be viewed as how much did it weigh?
