What's so "natural" about a brassica food plot...........?
Or clover, or oats, or sugar beats, or chicory, or rape, etc....

If you hunt over a food plot and are bad mouthing baiting you should look in the mirror cause you are only fooling yourself.

There is nothing natural about this scene below.

whats wrong with this pic?
whats next, saying mowed grass is illegal, deer love fresh cut grass too.

SBGobblers: Our crop damage permits are for does only. You can't shoot a buck with them. Seems like the state needs to change the way they do things and educate those they give permits to as to the best method of reducing a herd and reducing crop damage... killing the baby machines is the only way. Ours state, antlerless deer ONLY. In the case of an out of control population I think you'll find most game managers will tell you to shoot anything. When the deer herd is ruining the browse they say kill to a level and then start managing your herd for age/buck-dow ratios etc. but first and formost... kill everything. Doesn't sound like your land is at that level. They really should limit crop damage to does. Every doe killed takes at least two out of the herd quick and something like 8 or 9 in 3 years or as many as 11 with multiple births. I forget actual numbers, but if you figure a doe will probably have two after the first year they mount up fast.

Davidmil,
In your post, you quoted SB, but put my name to it. Not that it's that big a deal, but I was having trouble understanding what you were saying because I thought you were quoting me. Wasn't registering, oh well, maybe I'm just having cockpit problems...
See ya.

Again, David....common ground. I agree with everything YOU just said.

I was just hoping you'd understand where "I" was coming from with my former statements. I haven't swayed or faltered.

Have a good one.

Jeff

Sorry for the confusion. I copied and pasted his thread and he had addressed you in it. I just copied. I'll go change it so you won't be confused.[8D]

davidmil,
Actually, the doe is the bably machine, and here's why.

If you had 20 deer in your herd, 19 were bucks, and one was a doe. Assuming none were killed, next year you'd most likely have 21 deer.

But if you switch the ratio to 19 doe, and one buck, you could easily have 39 deer in your herd, and that is if they only have one baby each.

Man, when I come back, I want to be that buck!

I understand the reason some have given about banning baiting due to disease. Makes me questionwhy food plots are legal where baiting isnt????

In Illinois, baiting is unlawful to help stop the spread of disease such as CWD.
Bingo!!! Mountain hunter and Hazcon7 are the only ones to get it; baiting concentrates deer to a localized, tight, specific area. The deer are deficating and foraging invery tight area and spreading germs, bacterias, viruses, and diseases amongst each other much more than free ranging or foodplot feeding deer do. It's all about disease; not giving a hunter too much ofan edge.

Well then it sounds like the Grand Great Uncle or whatever he is is the problem. Nothing you can do except hunt and have as much fun as you can. One man can't make a difference with 6 tags unless the poachers help.[&:] With all the sanctuary they have around you and the uncooperative neighbors, you really can't make much of a difference. Hunt for what you want and to heck with it unless the guy changes.
