why is baiting illegal!
i dont get why baiting is illegal in some states, and others its not, i strongly hate this law, are they scared people will get to many deer or something.
If you think that law is stupid, how about the no lumenock law, or the you cant shoot albino deer law, whos thinks baiting should be aloud everywhere? |
RE: why is baiting illegal!
Sounds like a good question for the political forum.....LOL
I agree 100% w/ the no baiting law. It trains the deer to NOT to use "natural" food sources, thus putting them at a strong disadvantage when you stop baiting, especially if said deer are eating there at a very young age. Second, that's not even hunting anymore, is it? |
RE: why is baiting illegal!
so than why isent huntingacorns illegal, or apple trees... i always hunt food sources, so why does it matter if i put it there or nature did?
and it is still hunting because ive hunted a acorns area that the deer visit every single night, and i still havent gotten a deer this year because there eating at night, so its definitley not gurantee. |
RE: why is baiting illegal!
Because if nature put it there, it's a NATURAL food source, not a psuedo food source....(is that a word?????)
I hate to be the one to break this to you, but there are OTHER reasons you've not killed a deer this year besides them eating at night.....believe it or not. |

In Illinois, baiting is unlawful to help stop the spread of disease such as CWD.

I agree with your first statement.....and I live in a state that allows baiting....and I keep a feeder up all year long (And I DO NOT hunt over it). THE reason I do.....is 2-fold. 1) I like to keep the deer at least frequenting the property I hunt. 2) We have a LOT of deer.....and quite honestly....I feel better knowing they get a little food from me. Now....I dont hunt over the bait because it's TOO HARD. Baited deer are skittish deer (I watch them in the off-season). I don't have problems with deer being skittish when I hunt mast crops or when I'm catching them on their way out for the evening or in from the night out. I haven't taken a deer within 150 yds of bait in my life. Problem I have with the "baiting isn't hunting" high and mighty is......they think food plots don't equate to baiting. If my bait pile (hypothetically....i use a spread feeder) was an acre in size.....would that make it better? If your food plot was 10'x10'....would that be baiting? What's the difference? The difference is I don't care how you hunt....and I won't belittle it. Just hunt legally. Jeff |

What's so "natural" about a brassica food plot when there's no such indigenous foliage for COUNTIES around? Jeff Let's be real, OK? |
RE: why is baiting illegal!
I think Compound bows, rifles, cover sents, decoys, foodplots, natural food sources, tree stands, camo, all should be outlawed.
