Default Choosing a bow

I have a 2 year permit to use a crossbow, but I'd like to start looking for a compound bow...and I have no idea what to get. What should I look for in a bow? (I don't know much, at all, about bows...so technical terms will not help me, unless you explain) haha.

The best advice you can get is to head to your local pro shop and talk with them. They can answer any specific question you may have and point you in the right direction. The single most critcal aspec of archery is the proper draw length, and they can determine that for you as well.

First, find someone you can trust who is experienced with a bow. Friend, relative, etc. The more they know how a bow works, tech terms, setting it up, etc. the better off you will be. Find some good established archery shops and check out all of the brands..........not just the one(s) that seem to be the most popular because like buying a car, YOU are the one who has to be satisfied. Make dang sure the draw length is right(not close), and the poundage is what you are comfortable shooting. Don't buy something because its close in fit and because its on sale or clearance. If it doesn't feel like it should, which is solid at full draw and a comfort and joy to shoot.......you will be struggling to shoot as well as you can and will not enjoy it.

Right now in your novice form, to be honest, it really doesn't matter what you get. Your going to go through transitions of shooting and learning and having the very best or a bargain bow really won't matter much...some but not much.

My suggestion would be to get a decent but not expensive bow to start and learn the fundamental and practice, practice and practice some more. You may even fore go a season until your ready, really ready. At that time you'll have a feel for a bow. Then you can go out and shoot alot of bows and decide what bow feels good to you. That will be hard however being a woman, many shops don't carry alot of bows of all sizes. It's easier for us guys because there is usually a 70 lb bow in a certain draw length or close for us to try out.

Many people choose bows because their buddy shoots it and says it's the best bow in the world, that same buddy never shot anything else and has no idea.

Shops are the same way. In my competitive 3D years I could tell what shop a bow came from by the way it was set up. It's comical.

I'd visit several shops because you'll get different opinions in each shop and then it's hard to determine whose right and who thinks their right. Hopefully you have a well rounded shop in your area and he'll sell you what you need rather than what he thinks he needs to sell you.

Good luck.

Amen!

Shops are the same way.
And double-Amen!!

If you want the most biased, uninformed opinion you can get a lot of the times -- go visit just one shop. Tell me they told you about any other lines that they didn't carry!

I agree with all above. Shoot something that you are most comfortable with
