Hanging Stand on Public Land (Wisconsin)
Im going to try hunting on some public land during the late season. What are the rules in regards to Screw Steps? And any advice on securing my stand and climb-stick? I bought a 5' Bike lock to secure it... thought it would be enough.

Screw-in steps are a big no-no on Wisconsin public ground.
As for securing your climbing sticks, I'm not really sure what the best way to go about that is since I've never done it. I would imagine any sort of bike/treestand lock would work.
If you're going to leave your stand in the tree on public ground I believe you need to have it tagged with your name and license number. I would contact the DNR or look up more info on their website as to the exact requirements before doing anything.

I called the DNR. I was suprised, you cannot leave your stand overnight. I know several hunters who leave their stands up for the season.
So much for the lock I bought.

Not sure of the public land you are hunting, but if it's owned by a paper mill or some timber company, you can leave your stand overnight. State land it's a no-no. County forest land, check with your local sheriff's department as there may be different county ordinances, such as having your name and address on your stand or not being able to leave it overnight.

I have no clue who owns the land I want to hunt. I know its public. It is about 5-10 minutes west of Big Falls, WI. Its near the Tigerton Lumber land, but I don't know if Tigerton owns that land also. I guess this is the last year Tigerton Lumber will make it public, then they are going to lease it.

I live near big falls wisconsin. 2 miles away. What land are you hunting? Dotty Creek on county Highway S & SS?
Yes, You must take stand down daily.
Most ORT land did become leased out in this area and Wittenberg area whereI hunt and Live.
To find out what land is still open, Contact TLC or stop in the office in Tigerton and ask for a map.
In this area about 300 acres are open to the public yet. Some are land locked.
Anyways, Sportsman, Message me on some details where abouts your hunting. Maybe I can help.
