little ones make big ones
#361
I hunt mostly for the meat! Plenty of big ones makeit through. I an learning how to tell a button buck from a doe fawn and I may pass on those. I don't want to shoot a spike ora 4-pointer or even a six. But the point is it's MY CHOICE!

You let the farmers around here see you passing up loads of deer because of their racks and you better believe you won't be hunting on that land long. Certain areas I hunt we practice QDM but really it all depends on the area and circumstances to me. By the way, QDM is a lot more complex than justletting little bucks go, that is only one aspect. I see that all the time in this area, big clubs with buck antler rules and that is it. No rules on harvesting does or goals for how many does to harvest in a given season. No food plots or other nutritional concerns addressed. They just say don't shoot any buckswhose rackswill fit ina five gallon bucket and that is their idea of QDM. You see a lot of that mentality on forums as well. Old timers who frown on shooting doesand little bucks(now the little buck part I understand) butwho is doing more for QDM ina givenarea? The old timer who might wait all season to kill a buck that meets the requirements but kills no does, or a guy that kills five does(hypothetical #). I guess that is my point a lot of people talkabout QDM butmany don't really get it.
