Were you hunting in a bow only area? I thought you couldn't use a bow during shotgun season. Just wondering?

As promised, here's some better photos. I thought he was a solid 2 1/2 when I shot him, but upon a closer inspection it looks like he's a really nice 1 1/2 with great genetics. I'm very disappointed in myself for shooting him, but I made a great double lung shot and that's always a good feeling no matter what you're shooting. I'm thinking European mount for this guy.
Thus ends my 2006 Illinois bowhunting season. I'm sad that I don't get to chase the big boys around during late season, but at the same time I can't say I'm disappointed about not having to hunt in sub-zero temperatures.

Very nice! I believe that he is a 2 1/2, as I also hunt lake co. quite a lot. I'm going right now as a matter of fact.
Congradulations on a great season.
BTW, I just got back from up north wis. from the gun opener. I got a 3 1/2 8 pt. 125". Pic in deer hunting forum.

Greg - congrats on your buck from up North. My dad just got back from the Spooner area today and he didn't get squat! Only saw 2 deer the whole weekend!
In any case, I really think he's a year and a half old deer with good genetics. Just got back from the butcher shop where I donated him to the Hunter's Feeding The Hungry program and they weighed him at 122 lbs dressed out so I'm guessing 150 on the hoof.
Regardless of size or score or age, I told myself I wasn't going to shoot a buck unless I was going to put him on the wall, so off to the taxidermist he goes! That will be my reminder to double-check the size of his rack before shooting next time!
