A few days ago I made a post about working now for hunting opportunites for next year and hopefully beyond.
Example: this afternoon I paid a landowner I hunt on a visit and since we are having constant rain I knew he most likely would be home. I was right and during our conversation, he mentioned that an old lady who owns land adjoining him and heats her home from one of his gas wells has a gas leak outside her home. This lady also won't let me hunt on her. Here is where I jumped in.............I offered to help as soon as I get off of work(7 am), and he said he could use the help and would pay me. I replied I don't want any money, I just appreciate the opportunity to hunt on your land. Long story short, I am meeting him after I get off work in the morning to help dig up and repair the lady's gas leak. I'll continue our good relationship and quite possibly make inroads on gaining permission to hunt on the lady, or maybe even gain it for the rest of this season.

Good stuff. That's what it's all about. I help the landowner of the piece I hunt every chance I get. I scored big points a couple months ago. He was driving by as I walking down the road along his land with a trash bag full of garbage
. Can't stand garbage in the woods. He gave me the big thumbs up with a smile on his face.

I did the same thing, this year. I don't have permission to hunt the land.....THIS SEASON......but I still might, next year. I've offered to help the landowner (who hunts, himself) with setting stands....tracking....etc... It may seem as thought I have an ulterior motive.....and I DO.....BUT...I HONESTLY just love being around hunting and I love watching how other people set up their sets. I might just learn something. I offered to help his elderly dad with hooking up equipment if he wasn't around.....because I have a father in law that's friends with him....and I know HE needs help from time to time, too. I know this guy would help him.
Anyways....I think I've made a FRIEND. If I get access to his land in the future.....great. If not.....I just hope he knows I'm sincere. I think he will.

I do the same, but here is the flip side.
There wasa 400 acre farm myself and two of my buddy's used to hunt in exchange for doing a little work. No problem right? The thing is, he had several neighbors who were neverwilling to help him out, yet he continued to let them hunt the land. To make matters worse, these same neighbors did not like our presence there even though we were hunting on landwhere we had permission. They even went so far as to lay down roofing nails in a couple areas where we parked in an attempt to run us off. When this was brought to the farmers attention, he basically turned a deaf ear to the situation. To make a long story short, we pretty much allowed him to take advantage of our good nature and the situation became very one sided so we parted ways.
