MA Doe Down!!! Slick Trick Style!
#1
Well this is my first success story since joining HNI. The day started early, hunted a piece of property about 1/2 hour away. Hunted the morning til noon. I didn't see or hear anything all morning. So i decided to head back home and hunt my parents property for the afternoon. Settled in my stand around 3pm. Stand is in a tall red pine located between an old clear cut and a field.Something about the evening, had me feeling good. Around 4:23pm, I heard a rustle about 45yds out...could see legs walking under the brush. This continued on for about 20minutes...moving very slow...feeding. It turned out to be a doe and a skipper. Well they turned and headed my way. If they continued going straight..i would of not had a shot...but the doe turned and headed quartering away. I came to full draw and she walked thur my lane. She then stopped behind brush(still at full draw) She then finally started to walk out at about 15yds, when the skipper came running up next to my tree. Offering me a 5yd shot... but i was focused on the doe. I settled my pin and gently squeezed the release. I then heard that magic "THWACK". I could see my fletching sticking out of her left shoulder blade. A little far forward then i would of liked. She then turned and bolted into the overgrown clearcut. I was confident that i heard her crash. I then called my father to bring some flashlights. I waited about a 1/2 hour, then slowly followed the blood trail. I found my arrow with the broadhead end snapped off. A good 12" of penetration. My father and I then found her about 45yds later! I busted thru her shoulder, took out one lung and didn't know til we hung her that the BHcame thur just in front of her right leg. I haven't got her weighted yet but probably between 115-120lbs. I am sold on these slick tricks. It looks like i hit her with my 12 gauge!
