Default Wind Dies

I've noticed in the place that I hunt that when prime time rolls in the wind dies. I mean dead. You can hear the fabric of my clothes crinckle. I feel it is the reason I've been busted twice.

Does this happen in your areas? Is no wind a bad thing or do I really need to get new gear?

Thanks

Tom

It depends statjunk, is this an excuse for the wife that you need back up on???LOL.....

In the past that used to happen to me some. The thermals always died out right at first light and late evening. But this year will be different, but I can't tell you what is going to happen yet. The timber company finished logging 80 acres ( clearcut ) starting right behind me and running east and west. So I have no idea how bad that may hurt me this year. It won't hurt me as bad as it hurts my wife though. Her tower stand is in the wide open now. 100 yard shot to the west, 450 yards to the south 400 yards to the east, and 150 yards to the north, to the nearest tree line. I have a feeling she is going to be soooo busted.

But no wind is not a bad thing, but I always try to buy my and my wifes hunting clothes, in the softest, most silent material I can get, and it still do the job. This might be a good time to invest in that Enigma clothing. I can't remember what they call the material, but the guys say it is soft , quiet, and resists water.

I have been thinking about doing that myself.....

Be safe and good luck

God Bless

That is my favorite time of the day when I'm in the woods. The wind dies, the squirrels and chipmunks finally go to bed, the birds are no longer chirping, all is calm, beyond whisper quiet.........SNAP

Seems to happen most days just as the sun goes down. It's a really cool time to be in the woods. But then...most times are really cool to be in the woods.

I also seem to notice that the wind dies down during prime time or just before dark. If your clothes are that noisy it can't be good, my suit is noisy but I haven't been busted yet. If your gonna get something new, I suggest some sort of fleece, its worm and almost silent. As for the question of no wind being a bad thing, yes and no; for you who has noisy clothing yes, but for deer hunting in general never. Deer realize that no wind means that they can pick up noises easier, so they move more and use the wind (or lack of)to their advantage, thus you get more deer movement and more chances of seein deer.

I'll take dead calm over windy ANY day!

(and yes....I've noticed this phenomenon, too)

Ok so that answers it. New gear. Actually I just need a new jacket. It is fleece but it must have a wind stopper liner in it and it makes enough noise to spook them.

Thanks guys.

This isn't my only problem. I also need to become more mobile. I'm working on it.

Deer move more when the wind is not blowing hard. They like the fact that they can utilize their sense of smeel a lot better. When the wind is blowing hard they will be very spokey and don't like to move to much.

There are other options like silent sued, perosnally I've never used them. My jacket is scent blocker but water-proof, I think that there is some kind of rubber lining in it that makes noise in the cold. You also have to watch out for that, some materials do make much more noise when cold.
