Default Buck Growl Effects!

Well folks the bucks were moving lastnight, my wifes cousin shot one and is going out this morning to find him. Abotu 45 minutes before he came out of the woods I had seen 1 spike some goofy racked young bucks and a nice 8 pointer. I let all the funky looking rack backs go through as I am after a good mature buck, Well I heard a brach break behind me and to the right across the access roadI was hunting on our property. I turned around and thers a nice 8 pointer walking merrilly along, I pulled out the buck growl and gave him a grunt, he didnt respond, so I hit again and still wasnt interested. He was getting further away about 60 yards. Im like heck wiht it im gonna try it, I growled at him, He stopped dead in his tracks and turned right around and began comming in. He came acorss the access road and walked in, unfortunately he didnt offer me a good shot he kept walking back and forth and in a semi circle around me. I was trying to figure out why he wasnt comming in. Then I thought about it, i put out the wrong scent, I ended up putting out doe in heat instead of just doe urine. He was lookign for the doe but there was nothing in there. He wanted to come in but he new something was wrong. I kept his attention with the growl for more than 45 minutes before Mike came up the road and the buck trotted off. Also during the growls I had 5 other bucks come in from different directions but none were shooters in my eyes. They knew something was going on and came in to see what it was. USE THIS CALL!!!! Im going to try the stand again tonight and see how it produces. Im not going to use any scents to see if this will help a little bit more.

You know whats funny... The BUCK GROWL.. its all marketing.. Why did all these companies all of a sudden come out with this particular grunt call this year? Oh thats right, Bucks just decided to start Growling last year.. They never did it before..

So does it really work ?

Why did they just come out with it? I guess they needed something new to sell...

I am glad that it worked for you. Hopefully next time you'll get a shot.

Calls, like anything, sometimes work and sometimes don't. This one may work for a while being new, but soon enough hunters will educate them to run like made when they hear it because they will over use it. IMO, hunters have become way too dependent on scents and calls instead of just good hunting tactics. That is just my opinion and certainly was not directed at Wis_bow. I just meant as a whole. It sounds like Wis_bow knows his stuff being around that many deer.

I never heard a buck growl either till last year untill October 27th. I was sitting in my climber about 18 feet in a tree and was just outside a bedding area. It was about 30 minutes before dark and I hit the rattle bag for about 1 minute, waited about 10 minutes and hit it again and I heard the most awfull soundI have ever heard in the woods. Being that we had some bears on our property last year it crossed my mind that it could be a bear running in or from something. Then I spot the source from which the sound came from, It was a buck.He wasnt running he was trotting. And he kept doing this. I will never forget that awful sound. I thought he was a sick buck so I said to myself, im going to take this sick bas*ard out of our herd. The sound wasnt a grunt, ive heard bucksgrunt many many many times andthis was no grunt. This buck was plain out pissed. After I made the shot he trotted off,not run, but trotted. Iheard him continue tomake this noise up untill he let out a death cry. I described this sound to my fater in law and he said he had never heard anything like, he figured he was sick too. Upon dressing this deer and butchering and sending the head in for cwd testing, we found this buck to be 100% healthy. The next day I decided to make a trip to a local deer farmer who has some pretty big bucks about 5 miles from my land and I asked him if he had ever heard this sound before. WhenI described he knew what I was talking about. He said he has some mature bucks that will make that sound when the does go into heat and they begin chasing. Usually in early Nov -mid Nov. He said that not all the bucks he hasmakes this sound only the deer he has that are 2 1/2 years old and older. While I was there I wasnt able to hear any of his bucks make this noise, I wished they would have. He wasnt sure why they did this but thought it was some sort of emotional sound. Well here it is a year later and the buck growl comes out. This is a very close replication of the sound that was heard on Oct 27th 2005 when I shot this buck. To this day this soundsend chills throughout my body. It works!

It's true bucks have been making this sound forever, but there has never been a call to mimic it. You can't do it on a regular grunt tube without making it squeal like a pig. I also have one. It saves space in my pack as a 3 in one call. Grunt, roar, snort / wheeze.

everyone is so skeptical because the druries and the primos gang make it sound like the bucks just decided to start growling last year and amazingly they both have it on video.however, i believe in the call. i've heard too many good stories about it. i'm fed up with my true talker too many fawn bleats when i'm trying to do buck grunts. i'm picking up the mad version.

I love the MAD version, and I believe they were the first to market it before Primos. This call works thats all i have to say about it and it proved itself lastnight. No need for any other call.

I think a big reason people are skeptical is because they are uninformed, and there are soooooo many gimmicks being put out today, it is hard to tell fact from fiction. Matthewsboy, shows this idea very well. He states that we just found out they make that sound, so now the companies came out with the call. No , that is not true. But, they did just learn how to produce acall that will make that vocalization. Just like we know that bucks fight, it took a while until companies got the idea to make "rattling horns " , then it tooka while to find a synthetic material which would have the same sound characteristics as real bone when clashed together. Everyone knows that you can scare deer off if you make unnatural sounds, so they have to make sure it sounds real. They do this by measuring the sound waves of the real thing, and comparing it to the "new" product. If the frequency and amplitude overlays match, then it goes into production and we get new calls and sounds.

There are other sounds and such, I feel safe in saying , that we have not heard yet and over the next few years we will see in the market place. But it is a little unrealistic to think we can get them all out at once. A little skepticism is a good thing, but a bit of honest humility is also needed to keep us aware that we don't know everything - YET - about this great animal we hunt.

Try it if you want to , use it if you like it, respect othersdecision to even if you don't. If we do that , we all might learn something.

God bless.
