I finally have a job where I can take an extended vacation during the rut.....I have never hunted like a madman during the rut because I haven't had the time.....mostly it was early and late season hunting due to my job. This year I will be hunting from November 6th-16th....I just don't know what to think, I think I will be in heaven. I already arrowed a doe this year so I am gonna go all-out for a nice buck or two. Wish me luck!
If anyone has ever taken a vacation during this time, could you please offer some tips on how to keep my stamina up, both mental and physical, and possibly some advice on your pre-rut/rut strategies/ and what you look for during this time before you switch tactics? Thank you all very much.

Water, and snacks. More water. Don't get dehydrated, it causes you to be less mentally alert.
Confidence. Understand that while you aren't seeing deer right now, at ANY second that buck could step into view, and you are in the perfect place to do it.
If you are hunting dark to dark...you are gonna get tired. Take a break. Sleep in one day and head to the woods around 8:30 or 9:00. Don't put too much pressure on yourself.

Bring yourself some treats to enjoy during the day. I like hot chocolate and those little chocolate covered donuts for a late morning snack and to warm me up.
Dont forget that even though Nov 7 is a vacation day for you (and me) it is also election day and it's your duty to vote. Make the time.

I'm on vacation the next two weeks!!! Still need to drop a doe so I can focus on my first buck! Try not to overdue it, last year at one point I was so fatigued I couldn't pull back on a doe at 10 yards. Days later had to pass on the biggest buck I've ever seen because I didn't get that doe. Hope I get that doe soon, don't know if I can pass up another once in a life time buck!

Thanks all....especially the part about pacing myself...I have always been in good shape, mentally and physically. On some of the days I have planned to hunt dark to dark, other from mid-morning til dark....unless I see tremedous activity in one area, I am gonna move around to keep my focus and desire up....I am excited to see if I have what it takes to endure the pace.....I will do it.
Also, any tactical advice from any guys who have experienced alot of success during the rut?
