A friend just called me. He took a quartering to shot on a doe tonight. Only three inches of penetration, fixed head. He told me he's not sure where he hit. His luminocs didn't work and he didn't see the arrow hit.
It went down and then took of down hill. He said there is a gooey gel a little fat and very little blood. The "gel' did not smell of gut.
Any ideas,I know this isn't the best description but it wasn't me and I wasn't with him.

im sad to say but the same thing happned to me tonight after i shot at a 4 point.
it was at 30 yards and when i shot, my arrow hit a branch and hit the back right leg of the buck. i heard a cracking noise that can only be described as the sound an arrow makes when it hits a tree. im thinkin i hit the leg bone. i didnt try to follow the trail or look for him cause i knew it was a bad shot, so i found my arrow and left. the arrow had a greasy substance and minimal blood. i will be back tomorrow to look for him. please wish me luck and also good luck in finding ur friends deer. hopfully this helps a lil
